New LCC Threat to BA/OW? Ryanair to Offer Connecting Flights with DY and EI

Came across this article:

http://www.fly4free.com/flight-deals..._campaign=push

Seems Ryanair is planning to now offer connecting services with both Norwegian and strangely, Aer Lingus. Given the latest round of BA cost cutting, ie fleet "densification" seems mainly a response to DY expansion am wondering how this will further pile the pressure on BA?

BA's main LCC threat is Señor Cruz.

(If an IAG airline is happy to "dance with the devil", as evidenced by your statement, then why would BA care???)

This rumour has been going on for some time so lets wait and see.

The report says looking into, not offering, and the connections are to 3rd party airlines not to another Ryanair flight. It will probably be supplied by a 3rd party as well according what I've heard on other websites.

The question could also be turned around and Ryanair could see the writing on the wall for its, so far, successful, model of operation and now is looking at changing it.

If it sparks BA to bring back interlining, go right ahead, connect away, DY/FR!

Aer Lingus is a funny idea with it being IAG but then, of course airlines interline with competitors so I'd say it's not as weird as I first felt reading that.

Aer Lingus did once invest in the Irish Intercontinental Hotels Group, in Pan Am's Intercontinental Hotels Corporation, had a controlling stake in the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, opened the London Tara Hotel in 1973 and owned all 15 other Copthorne hotels, and took control of the Dunfey hotel chain in the US.

But back in the 60s/70s most European flag carriers had hotels, too....

+1.

This could potentially lead to the creation of an ULCC alliance.

Yes I think that's more relevant.

O'leary and WW are great buddies and a lot smarter than people give them credit for.

Who doesn't give O'Leary credit? He's certifiable, but no one could doubt his ability to run a successful airline.

One could also say Ryanair is simply getting 'greedy'. If you run up profits like they do, it's natural that expansion beyond the core business is discussed. This happens at every corporation. Whether it is 'connections' or long-haul ops, these ideas keep popping up because it is a tempting idea to test if the Ryanair model can work in those areas.

So far, Ryanair have not given in to that temptation and I believe wisely so.
