Urgent help needed [Separate bookings, likely missed flight]

I'm booked on the 98 yyz-lhr tonight.

I have a seperate booking on WS to YYZ from yqt... was originally due at 6.52pm not going to arrive at 10pm... 10 mins after my ba flight departs.

any ideas what I can do.. I called ba and they protected my booking but it was all they could do on the phone.

I had the option to stay in yqt tonight but that wouldn't help me on seperate bookings

When you say BA 'protected your booking' what exactly did they say / do?

The problem you have is you have a separate booking that is nothing to do with BA and they don't have to do anything if you miss their flight. Nor do WS as they got you to YYZ though late.

There don't appear to be many options here. I'd personally get to YYZ as quick as you can and throw yourself at the mercy of the airport staff. And checking if you have an Avios redemption option if all else fails. Never good when this happens, but the first step is to get to the start of your BA trip as quickly as you can. I am sorry to hear about this, I hope it works out.

Reservations should have quoted how much it would to change the booking to tomorrow. 'Protecting' the PNR just gives the false impression something's been done. Sorry.

I'm also confused by 'protection'. My suspicion is that thanks to the op calling promptly, the agents put a note so that the ticket wouldn't auto cancel.

for the rest, sadly, it is just a reminder that it is our responsibility to arrive on time for the departure of the first flight in an itinerary, whether from the airport hotel next door or from an entirely different airport on a separate itinerary, and the risk if we don't is that we might lose the second itinerary entirely. If flying in, it is therefore critical to allow for potentially lengthy delays and have a plan b to get there if such unfortunate events occur. There was a time when BA was quite generous in accommodating the unexpected, but sadly by and large, this is by no means something one could let alone should count on when the worst occurs (although angels still do exist, and may they be thanked on behalf of all those of us who have benefited from their noteworthy efforts).

so the flight was delatyed just over 3 hours, the BA flight pushed back as i arrived.

However they moved me onto tomorrows flight FOC so a good result there.

The bad is, WS lost my luggage too!

Given you were on a completely separate booking, that is very generous by BA. Glad that part of the issue has worked out, sorry to hear about your luggage.
Perhaps a small reminder to the board that at times, BA still do the right thing.
(No comment on Westjet and 3+hr delay and lost bags

Agreed.

I have always had a good experience of the YYZ team.

Hope WS quickly finds the OP's luggage.

And further evidence that contacting BA earlier if there are "circumstances outside your control" that are delaying you (and these are easily confirmable by BA) then they can be flexible.
