Not in the sense of there being a set pattern. But the current timetable for northern winter 2017/8 shows JNB being a double daily 388 throughout the season (except for 24 December, when BA57 will not operate). I haven't checked this against availability displays, though.

3 flights a days to LAX from Heathrow? So three take offs and landings at LHR for one destination. Maybe BA should invest in some more A380s to increase capacity?

With SFO, SJC, OAK, SAN and LAS all now served daily (or almost) by BA as well, I wonder is this A380/B787/B747 LAX mix a way to try and keep Y seat capacity down given the other (cheaper) options people now have for California all along the Coast while basically cornering the LON>LAX premium market with AA (5 flights a day between them!)

I think you may be better off flying up to OAK and go on the BA flight from there to LGW and clear customs at OAK which is smaller or go to SJC and fly to LHR as opposed to LAX. The times are good out of the SF Bay Area and you avoid the problems.
If I were flying from LA I would fly from Burbank up to SJC on Alaska and allow enough time to connect and use the interline baggage agreement if AS still has it with BA.

AA already operates a 772 on this route since last winter. 108/109 is currently on 772 and 135/136 is 77W (108/109 was on 77W last winter). Summer peak will be on 77W for both flights.
