Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

I can't see a photo of this sort of flight, the departure time is 06:15 so it's breakfast.

PMI to BHX (BACF)

This is what one gets at 2 am. Well, the SCCM apologised and said there was some mix up with catering in LCY, though I couldn't work that out exactly, unless he meant there should have been another hot option. On offer was this chicken katsu with rice, the shredded beef salad (see post 2580), panini or bacon roll.

You lost me here - was the choice the chicken rice OR panini OR bacon roll OR beef salad? Or was there a choice of chicken rice OR beef salad AND then panini OR bacon roll?

I've never had 4 choices on a short haul flight but neither have I ever had two meals on them so I'm trying to understand if it is one of those two things or if I am misunderstanding this entirely?

I was indeed offered one of those 4 choices for the one meal, though I think there was an element of cobbling together. The next flight in its sequence was BHX-FLR departing at 06:00 hrs. I doubtless could have asked for the chicken as well as the bacon roll - along with the 2 packet of biscuits and the popcorn already served with the drink before the meal - but that would have been an outrageous amount of food for a 2 hour flight.

Thanks! Yes, I wonder if the panino/roll were effectively meant for the BHX-FLR in Y? I've never seen 4 choices before in CE and the last two sound like some of the breakfast option on Y for longer LCY (and thus BHX/EDI/MAN/STN) routes? Maybe that's what the crew meant by catering mix up?

I thought it was quite nice. Substantial bit of salmon, nice bread, and nice dessert. Certainly a better option than the chicken salad. May try a Asian vegetarian brunch this Saturday and see what that's like.

As one who has pretty much given up on CE as a total waste of hard cash (though will occasionally fly it on points or as part of a multi-sector involving long-haul), my ‘knowledge base’ of CE meals is largely derived from the many photos posted rather than via regular personal experience. And I am constantly surprised by the huge variation in what is currently offered : ranging from what appears to be perfectly respectable offerings to those best described (when related to fare levels) as shamefully poor.

I am considering VOML (Asian Vegetarian) meals for my next flights. What can I expect it to be on a short haul (AMS-LHR) Club Europe flight during Afternoon Tea service?

Is the VLML afternoon tea still tomatoes and mozzerella?

Unless it has changed recently, expect a nice and spicy channa masala (chickpea curry) with gobi palak (cauliflower spinach) and chapatti. I like it enough to usually order it instead of breakfast or afternoon tea.

Had a recent flight where I was given something that was clearly Middle Eastern rather than Asian (tofu, cous cous and olives) but I am quite sure that was a packing error.

(Think the code is AVML, by the way.)

Where are we with longer routes out of LHR this month (and into early Sep). Wondering if I can get a fish option outbound or rtn or whether to opt for veggie. Thanks.

Sounds good! And yes, you are correct. VOML is not offered by BA.
