Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

Thank you for the response, it must have been a one off, I had the duck. Also on an other note, does anyone know how much detail is contained on the cabin crew ipad RE: catering. On two of my recent flights it was suggested that I might like a red wine and a baileys which what I always have!!

I was wondering if anyone has seen the short band LHR VGML for afternoon tea yet? I didn't see it when scanning this thread. Also, how similar are the LCY lunches and dinners? The VGML lasagna looks quite nice for dinner to me, but i'm flying to RTM at lunchtime. Thanks in advance.

I had it LHR-PMI last week. It is the mozzarella and three X tomato quarters, ''salad'' served with a drizzle of pesto. This comes with the standard afternoon tea slice of cake. And nothing else. Fine for a short band but totally awful for a medium.

Thanks, I was hoping they might change it for the afternoon tea but clearly not. Thanks anyway

Can't order a special meal

I've redeemed CE LCY-EDI on Monday afternoon as there was no availability in Economy on the flight I needed.

The option to order a special meal is grayed out on MMB. In the myflights app it shows Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian (NO) next to my name. Does this mean I won't be getting a meal on my flight? Any suggestions?

Vegetarian meal preference is set in my BAEC profile but usually it would show Confirmed on myflights.

I think florens has experience of this, but my understanding is that you should get the vegetarian dish via your profile default setting.

Thanks C-W-S, I will see what happens. Hopefully I will get a meal I can eat as this is the only differentiation to Economy for me on this route.

Yes exactly. This worked fine on my couple of last flights with my OH who is vegetarian.

isnt it time BA were a little more adventurous/ creative with their Hot Breakfast offering?

Almost every flight long haul, and every short/domestic hot breakfast I've been offered has been Sausage/Bacon/Egg, or Omelette.

Not to mention afternoon tea sandwiches invariable include an Egg filled one.

Does BA have their own chicken farm as they clearly like offering eggs on their menu.

Time to offer something different or new?

For me this is turning into the bigger problem with these changes, which otherwise are broadly positive for me (given that CE is on domestics, which takes the edge off the Mediums issue).

But the problem is greater than breakfast. Yes the breakfast is somewhat unchanging (there are up to 2 alternatives, plus the Special meals, plus there is some customisation possible trading items around). At breakfast time you can perhaps get away with this since it's not a bad start to the day anyway. However there is now a very constrained number of meal options out there and I'm hitting the same meal, or a variant, time after time.

So there are 3 Rotations, plus inbound and outbound, plus 2 alternatives. So in theory there are 3 Rot x 2 directions x 2 alternative items = 12 items. However the rotations overlap, so in reality there are just 8 items, and these items also overlap on connecting sectors, so the starter on Long becomes the only meal on Short. So you can easily find yourself seeing beetroot 4 times in 2 days. Or in my case, and this has happened already, 8 times in 3 days!

Admittedly, by mixing LCY and LGW then you have a much wider range of options, and by dint of living between NCL and EDI I'm unusual in having that choice. Not many CE passenger live around here.

So regular CE flyers are going to get bored very soon! Welcome to the Club, say the vegetarians.

I fully agree. My OH had the tomato/mozzarella VLML 3 times over three days:

ZRH-LHR: as a main
LHR-TLL: as a starter
LHR-ZRH: as a main

I'm happy with the breakfast left as is - it's consistent, reliable and edible...

But, yes, it does look like they need to change everything else a little more often.

I had the chicken salad today on the 1135 from AMS.

Came with potato salad and some kind of cheesecake.

All parts were good, the potato salad needed the pepper though.

I thought that salad came with the lovely sliced in half prawn but maybe that has changed now?

Anyhow it was perfectly adequate and tasty!

They've had baileys in Club Europe certainly for the last two years!
