Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833
-------------------------
Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

Afternoon tea LHR-BCN

(ploughman's was also available I believe, but staff were pushing the sandwiches).

Dire. Absolutely dire.

Castlenau served out of the full sized bottles.

That looks awful. There is some serious inconsistency here. Some of the short and long band meals look great, but for sectors like LIN, CPH and VIE the catering is plain inadequate. So frustrating.

While the long band food is great, the timings of the service can be hit or a miss.....

Last Sunday eve LHRHEL wasn't at all relaxing, 20+ pax in J, purser + another FA serving, but first they gave wrong menus and took orders before realising the mistake... Took 45 min after take-off for first drinks (and I was in row 1), another 35-40 min before tray appeared and it was less than 60 min before descent hot food came out (so the last row really had to hurry up to eat it....).... You really had to try hard if you wanted something to drink with your meal, not to mention top ups.....

It just seemed the purser didn't do anything for quite a bit of the time, while the other FA was running up and down....

Afternoon tea has always been my least favourite service in CE. The new version is equally my least favourite. I do like the recent changes to the CE food offering, with the obvious exception being the quantity of food offered on the old Band 2 and 3 sectors.

Most of my CE flights are to/from MAN and other Short Band services and I find the food perfect for that flight time. The old Band 2 and 3 sectors need attention though - and that afternoon tea needs to go!

Greetings from 6D&F... Got the tray at 20:25 and (luke)warm course at 20:42 - landing was 21:15 (all BST). She just about asked for our coffee/tea order as the captain switched on the seatbelt light. Not very enjoyable No top-ups, just the first glass I got about 20:00.

Well, given that SK no longer offers a business class product on intra-European flights, having replaced it with a premium economy one ("Plus"), this is hardly surprising. The BA product is in a very literal sense in a different class: business rather than premium economy.
A comparison with an airline that still offers intra-European business class would be more meaningful.

And many trays were returned with a lot of food on them because of no time to finish anything. I had nothing to drink with the meal because non was offered and I felt sorry for the crew for trying to throw the trays. I managed to get a mug of tea in the end but almost burnt my mouth because of the short time. I think the crew members tried hard to give the best possible service under the circumstances. Now I think small bottles of wine and champagne are fine because the gladdes need not to be refilled so often. Ofcourse pouring from big bottles is classier.

BTW the menu included smoked duck, either Thai style chicken or smoked salmon, cheese, chocolate cake with orange sauce. Delicious in other circumstances.

BA718 today, LHR-ZRH, only 2 ploughmans loaded (19pax in CE) so passengers were not asked if they wanted it. I didn't want the afternoon tea so I got it. Egg good, meat good, bread very tasty. Cake dry and tasteless. Overall more substantial than the dire afternoon tea offering.

That looks great. And, no wonder BA doesn't load many, because I reclon most people would choose it if they could...

Yes ....... I think we can say dire is a fair description.

What, I wonder, might be a reasonable estimate of the retail value of this particular food offering ...... £3 tops maybe .....

And just how happy, I wonder, would BA be to use this photo within promo material extolling the 'benefits' of booking their business class product ?

I have some magic beans to sell if you'd pay £3 for those finger sandwiches.

'Twas my attempt to be ultra-generous to BA by including the cake (or whatever it is ....)

Does the new CE catering also apply to LCY, or are CityFlyer still on the Band 1/2/3/4 model?

(Apologies if this has been answered somewhere in the previous 1,000 posts - perhaps we could add it to the wiki when we have an answer.)
