Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

4 hour flight

How many meals get served on a 4 hour flight? Is it always just one on Europe flights?

Yes only one, are there any airlines that would service more than that, I would be very surprised if there were?

Yes, i had two meals service on a flight of 2:15 minutes. Granted this was a bit special as it is one of those first flight with a technical stop, but nevertheless.

Not on any 4 hour segment that I know of, although you could 'make it' two meals on some flights that have dine on demand in J (e.g. QR etc). Some airlines do have a second drinks service though.

Are you sure about that? My understanding was that the stock was owned by Tourvest, but they were not responsible for choosing the menu.

No I'm not sure, I certainly don't have access to the relevant contracts and what I provide here is often second or even third hand. But the way it was explained to me was that the food menu involved a lot of 3 way co-ordination between BA, M&S and Tourvest. For the drinks it was largely left to Tourvest to sort out. Could Seńor Cruz ensure Gordons was sold on his aircraft? I would certainly hope so, if he was so minded.

It turns out that there is a monthly rotation involved.

This is the NCL - LHR in CE, 1 May 2017, so a short evening meal (lunch would be the same) - salad option, not pre ordered.

So this is a duck salad (yes, I checked with the crew), on slaw garni with walnut pieces. The cheese is now accompanied with mango chutney (less certain). The dessert has gone from a somewhat insipid panna cotta to a very rich chocolate mousse top with a dark chocolate topping. It's very rich, I couldn't eat two. This replaces the previous chicken and prawn salad, see post 733 for an example.

And yes, I did send that cup of tea back for a replacement.

There's also been a change on the panino front. Or rather former panino: it's now a hot flatbread, not cut in half, but folded over the contents. It's at least 50% bigger than the previous version. The NCL filling was chicken Caesar salad. No photo I'm afraid. Still served with the potato salad side dish, and with the chocolate dessert.

Hello C-W-S and thank you for the NCL-LHR update. I'm on that route too most weeks so i'm looking forward to the new menu rotation on Wednesday night.. I was never 100% sold on the strange panacotta(?) thingy - never stopped me eating it though!

Lunch ex GVA May 01

Chicken flatbread, other choice was a salad.

Flatbread very doughy, chicken felt low quality but was well spiced.

Interesting, this smoked duck salad (according to the menu) was the starter on ATH-LHR yesterday (01/05) and in my opinion very good.

No pictures I'm afraid but the main courses were a red chicken curry (simple but tasty, generous portion too) or hot smoked salmon (which my partner had, highly rated). This was accompanied by two bread runs, cheddar and the mango chutney (as above) and chocolate orange cake. We're regulars on LHR-ATH and whilst we had no previous complaints with the catering on this route, it's a definite improvement in terms of quantity and quality.

The only slight drawback was that the service (majority by hand) was slow as we had an 8 row/36 pax CE Cabin. It was a good 2.5 hours from start to finish (tray clear in) to complete the service.

Long breakfast (LHR-TLL).

So no fruit plate here. The small pot at the back was yoghurt with banana compote.

MAY 2017 - Long "rest of the day" meals - to and from London

I'll do a separate post on this in due course, but I think we can work out the system. Suffice to say this is known as Rotation A and covers the Long service meals (so apart from breakfast) for the rest of this month, for the flight numbers listed under the menu options.

Out from LHR on the left, return to LHR on the right.

For outbound from LHR (chicken supreme or cod) - this was the inbound service in April, otherwise known as Rotation C.

Previous pictures here:
Chicken: see post 427
Cod: see post 345.

For the inbound to LHR (chicken khao soi and salmon) I imagine the photos will come in very shortly.

The drink menu is unchanged

.

So in short, there are Rotations A, B and C, meals shuffle between the rotations on a monthly basis with swaps between inbound and outbound between these months. LGW has slight difference I think since there is an ALC meal in the wiki which doesn't fit into this, but it may be Rotation B.

The starter for inbound to London (duck breast) is the main salad on the short menus at least.

One menu for an entire month? I can imagine some frequent flyers getting rapidly very bored, although to be fair BA seems to have pushed some of the better meals forward.

Would the menus for the SPMLs also follow the same pattern?

corporate-wage-slave, do you have any idea why it says 876A on the menu on the left? I am on 876 in June and look forward to the new catering.
