Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

@aks120 - main plate looks pretty good, must say.

But what exactly is the brown ‘thing’ top right ?? Looks rather worrying........ hopefully just the effect of flash.

It's indeed Do&Co's rye bread, main to a German or Austrian standard, so with a quite strong flavour and fairly filling. I think there is usually a round Do&Co badge sticker to enclose the plastic wrapper. I quite like it but you would need to go through the slightly liquorice after-taste and the slightly rubbery (in a good way) crust.

I must say I quite like it too. If you've had breakfasts in Germany that's one of the most standard bread tastes you get there. It's different and chewy but not unpleasant! I'll be tried for heresy on that one but I approach it with a bit the same spirit I used to approach soda bread offered on Cityjet flights at the time they used to fly under AF colours. Subtly exotic but pleasant on an occasional basis. For full disclosure, I rarely eat bread on planes.

Unfortunatley the ex-Gatwick ploughman's is somewhat inferior to the Heathrow version shown above. I was served this disgrace yesterday - cheapest possible white bread, a sliver of sausage roll and tiny piece of cake.

Unreal.

Although, in fairness ...... you can’t expect much for 95 pence ; which I imagine was about BA’s budget for that apology for premium catering.

This is my favourite dish on the Short Band flights, sadly, it has disappeared from the MAN flights and we are subjected to the rather underwhelming 'afternoon tea'. Personally, if they insist on taking the choice away from us, they should serve the Ploughmans.

Agree, the Ploughmans is generally the strongest meal on short band flights. It gives enough variety and filling for these sectors. Infinitely better than the panini...

That looks very poor and indeed much worse than the LHR version. A sad effort.

How far away is that cake? Utter disgrace for any distance other than maybe LGW-LHR

With the afternoon ploughman's there appears to be half a sausage roll or half a scotch egg, I presume the other half is on another tray saving about 20p or less.

For me, the bargain basement, cheapest-of-the-cheapest, white bread is perhaps the worst thing about that ‘meal’. Not to mention unhealthy too.

Just a little out of sync with the official website CE hype, I’d say .......

Our Club Europe service on short haul flights within the UK and Europe offers you a meal planned to perfection based on the time and length of your flight”

Menorca is Medium, I'm afraid. I don't think IBZ / PMI is an anomaly, IBZ is further from London, But MAH is nearer than PMI.

We then have the joys of the 'build a breakfast' putting the yogurts and butter on the trays and loading the hots into the ovens. Always fun when trying to board passengers at the same time!
I think alcohol bars are round tripped too - if so, what happens with ice for drinks on nightstopping flights? Do they load that locally or does it all just melt?
