Spare joker and no time to spend it :(

As per the title, I have a Joker left and my year ends tomorrow.

The next 11 months are so busy I really don't have the time to make use of it

Any suggestions for what to do with it, before it evaporates ?

My understanding is it needs to be spent today, as it disappears at the end of the 7th.
I used one on an Bank Holiday Y RFS redemption when the cash fares were Ł600. I can certainly think of worse uses.
Either way if you are staying GGL no reason not to speculatively book an RFS that you can cancel later.

I suppose you can book a flight, have the first flight (AMS/MAN/EDI-LON) in 364 days, then the proper longhaul/rest of itinerary up to a year from that. All using the same Joker.

You don't have to use it just because you have it.

I must have let a lot of Jokers lapse.

I am yet to use one of these...

Never had any use of it as I don't spend Avios on longhaul BA flights and shorthaul can be used GPRs usually.

Why would you use GPRs for shorthaul, paying double Avios, when you can have it free with a Joker?

My advice would be - if something suits book it, if something doesn't don't worry about it. I've never redeemed any myself (mostly because I didn't know what they were, doh) but if you're not missing out don't feel pressured into booking anything.

slightly off topic, but can a joker be used for one way flights?

It's a shame to lose a Joker as they can offer great value in the right circumstances. I've just used the last one from this year (my membership year ends today) booking SCL in J over Xmas and New Year. The other one got used for a long weekend in CPT (J/F). Particularly when stacked with an AMEX 241 and / or GUF, they can create redemption bookings worth many Ł000's.

Like LTN_Phobia, I have let quite a few jokers lapse.
This year we have 5 Jokers to use and chances are at least 2 will lapse unused.

Just came off the phone with the GGL line - no problem at all to make a one-way booking for December.

It's on a route I may well travel, and the taxes & fees weren't a fortune, so not worried about parking the Avios and cash there for a few months.

I wonder if anyone (dylanks perhaps ?) knows how flexible Jokers are ?

At a later date, would I be able to vary dates/times/routes/pax and if so how often ?

In any case, it's fully refundable up to 24 hours before departure so a pretty low risk option to use it rather than lose it ...

You can change dates, times and routes within the same zone at your will. Outside the zone can sort-of be done if you ask nicely but best avoided (it has to go through supervisor level). Pax can't be changed/added but can be removed.
