JER Do 2017 - Saturday 15 Jul 17, 1200-1830

Returning to this Forum by popular request - The JER DO

All welcome, membership of BAEC or FT not compulsory!! Looking forward to seeing new faces as well as previous attendees. Come for the day? A couple of days? A long weekend? The options are endless!!

Please note the Wiki Post (click the + button top right in the blue banner at the top of this thread) will evolve with details of attendees and Booked Flights.

Date/Time …
Saturday 15 July, 1200 - 1830.

Location
The Bar, St Helier [on the Waterfront by Cineworld, and near the Radisson Bleu].
The Bar's website is here with their Menu etc.

Food and Drink.
We will have a section of the Terrace, and use of the Upstairs Bar.
You can run your own Bar Tab.
The kitchen will be in operation until 1430, and re-opens at 1700. Sadly the 'all day' option only applies if we have a more significant number attending!
Yes, they take Amex
Anything happening later will evolve naturally. Indeed, other things may evolve over the next 6 months, but at least I have made a start. Watch this space!

Hopefully this photo puts things in perspective. Note: there are some new office blocks in the area which alter the scene somewhat!

General Info
  • Currency is STG, but we have our own banknotes/coins. UK notes/coins mingle freely with ours, but any JER notes you take back to UK will have to changed at a bank. You can always ask for UK notes when receiving change: most establishments oblige and usually have some.
  • Most shops are closed on Sunday.
  • Weather … Jersey Met Office or follow The Weather Channel
  • Click here for the Jersey Tourism website.
  • Click here for Jersey Airport.
  • Click here for Bus details. The No.15 Airport bus runs every 20 minutes, costs 2.00, and takes about 40 minutes to Town. Taxi to Town will be about 15.
  • The current, free, "What's On" booklet and Visitor Maps are on the left as you enter Baggage Reclaim, and are also in the Arrivals lobby.
  • Customs allowance is 200 cigarettes and 1L of spirits (etc). You will be hammered by Customs if you exceed that, so don't listen to what Duty Free at Gatwick might say about "Nobody bothers" ... just ask stevieed what can happen!
  • If you happen to travel to the East of the Island, be aware that your phone may hook up to France Telecom ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-jersey-34658109

Things to do when not drinking.
Click here for Jersey Museum, nearby.
Click here for Elizabeth Castle info, also nearby.
Click here for the Jersey War Tunnels - really quite moving. Bus ride or car necessary.
Click here for details of La Mare Wine Estate - yes, we have vines as well as cows

Apologies to those who can't make this date. I've had to juggle a few personal requests in the hope of keeping 'most' people happy!

It would be nice to meet a few of the JER residents of this Forum too. I shall have to try and seek them out, and send personal invitations!!

And good to see Athlete95 re-surfacing from his hedonistic lifestyle

I am booked - early flight on the Sunday but that may help me be more sensible at the do!

Looking forward to seeing old friends and new folks!
