At least they picked a rubbish example where the saving was only £20 and reading through the article comments the general consensus seems to be it's more effort than it's worth. I was very happy with my last ex-EU to HKG which saved £1700 but don't tell the DM...

God those people in the comment section or either illiterate or plain dumb.
Or did I just describe the average DM reader?

I agree the Comments section makes for interesting reading, but please don't turn this thread into a DM Bash Thread.

The fact this matter has now been brought to the attention of the general public, is the main reason I started the thread.

Love some of the 'expert' comments under the article.

I'm surprised some of those people can manage to catch a bus!

Stupid article. At least the example they used is pretty terrible.. why would anyone fly to Stockholm with monarch to fly premium economy to LAX to save £24.

All of the hassle of connecting through LHR, the risk of the monarch flight being delayed and not having any checked luggage...

I've had some amazing deals ex-EU with club world and first but only go for places I actually enjoy staying for a night on the way home (Amsterdam for example) and the savings more than pay for a night on the way home

Not much of an example really. Direct flight is 12hrs outbound, hidden city route is 38hrs.

Think I'll stick with the economy offering

Well said.

Although I'm thinking that the (mostly weird ) published comments from DM readers - combined with the woeful example chosen to accompany the article itself - will hopefully push it all to the back burner rather than the front, as far as the wider public is concerned ......

The comments are heartening, too much hassle for the layman. But the reminder for the airline is an unnecessary bell.
