LCY-MAN? Bye bye Virgin Trains

Or will this just be a positioning flight?

Has been rumoured for a while. Lcy-Man would be positioning flights in the same way Txl-Stn are.

I thought this had been confirmed a while back? Following the STN model but bookable unlike the GLA Barrhead Travel routes.

Very little redundancy in that schedule, and no cover. Even going tech at MAN would cause problems since an alternative jet wouldn't be able to position out.

Could be a lucrative flight to pick for compensation chasers..?

If you read thebasource it appears there was the occassional alternative aircraft positioned to STN to maintain the timetable.

I can see this going terribly wrong when the whole schedule relies on 1 plane

If the first season of operating this works well, perhaps positioning a handful of aircraft out to provide more routes (and a bit more redundancy) might work well.

And -- heaven forbid -- a fleet of MAN-based aircraft.

There's rumour of something similar at BHX this summer.

If Crossrail affects demand for LCY flights when it opens in 18/19, there may be more non LCY Cityflyer flights year round on weekdays.

There was a posting made on here maybe a year back that referenced a job ad for city flyer wanting crew based at bhx. I tried to search but had no luck finding it.

It's nice that this is now in the open. As ever, the company isn't going far out of it's way to test something new. It'll be no secret that this is predominantly a utilisation exercise, but they key point here is that we could have sent the aircraft to STN. The results of this will be looked at carefully, and we'll of course follow the money.

We're looking at sources for a number of extra E190s ready for S18, I can tell you that.
