** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under Ł300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under Ł500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for Ł520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~Ł235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Question Taipei and Singapore TP Run - Mid Jan

After 3 excellent TP runs in 2017 (DUB-HNL, TLL, TUN-CPT-DEL) - looking for a 1st in 2018,/Looking for inspiration for mid Jan trip.

Leaving no earlier than Sat 13th AM and neding to be back in SE UK on Wed 17th, I need 6hrs+ in TPE and SIN,
so MON TPE Tue SIN or reverse.

Target spend Ł2k (default will be PE/WTP LGW-_HKG-TPE tehn Scoot to SIN and SIN->UK WTP using Inclusive tour pricing)

I have looked at Ł7 STN-OSL then OSL-HEL-HKG-SIN + SIN-TPE _ TPE-HKG-HEL-LHR (I am a real A350 addict - especially with Wifi) at about Ł2k
The RJ LHR-AMM-BKK-HKG might be useful but it looks expensive.
I can combine with another TO run to Asia in April to allow back to back if necessary - I am in ICN,TYO,SIN,HKG every 4-6 weeks - and can do LCC hops - but I love flat beds.

Looking forward to your inspirations / tips

Need to book this soon, so any advise on best runs (esp B2B turnarounds) for max TPs per leg and low $/TP would be appreciated.

I couldn't get it to book online on the UL website. It would price up through bookingwithmatrix however it wasn't clear if the fare rules would be the same as the ones quoted on Matrix (250 euro cancellation fee and I think 100 euro change fee) so I went through SriLankan phone reservations. First call they quoted me over Ł3500 euro. Second call they quoted me the correct amount, I 'reserved' it but they gave me 4 days to call back and pay. I was issued with a locator (which showed the reservation on the UL website). I called back yesterday to pay for it after I got a reminder e-mail. I have to say that the payment process was painful and ended up having to speak to a supervisor in Colombo after they said I'd have to call the FRA office to pay for some unknown reason. Anyway I now have e-ticket numbers.

I think the FRA - DOG legs may cause their system difficulty as they show up on EF as wait listed.

When I spoke to UL on the phone during the payment process they confirmed the fare rules to be what I expected and quoted the same code as I was expecting.

I chose CGK because it just qualifies for 140 TP from CMB and is an A330 route and offers a daily service form CMB. Be careful with the DOH to CMB leg as this is sometimes operated by an A320 without lie flat seats.

Hope that helps.

Really nice trip! I'm about to book this for January for 1511gbp and toying with going to Madrid to (re)take the LATAM 787 Dreamliner to FRA - which is a brilliant flight

I think FRA-DOH-CMB-CGK-CMB-DOH-FRA earns a BA Gold about 18,000 avios and 840 TP? and then I'll add flights to mad, fra return too.

Need to edit this to allow time in SriLanka, as last time I was there a war was raging in the North. Never been to Jakarta - worth stopping off for a day or two?

The traffic in Jakarta needs to be seen to be believed, that's my overriding recollection of a few days there a couple of years ago. You can spend a lot of time in it.

Not sure how the Multi City Booking works. Trying to enter first segment FRA to DOH but UL tool will not accept DOH. Any suggestions please: the experience of booking over the phone doesn't seem one to look forward to. Planning FRA to CGK 30 March OutBound Inbound 1 April arriving FRA 2nd April 7.05 a.m. ALL UL on A330's. Apologies if have missed anything really basic. Many thanks. MGW60

Try FRA-CMB instead, should come up with the DOH option.

VS has apparently started its winter sale, so it might be worth prodding the matrix ex-EU and usual destinations to see if anything interesting is being matched...

jakarta is a huge congested city with some great hotels and males. There is a lot to see but if that not your thing then
consider taking the train to Bandung. It a cheap trip and Bandung has good hotels, shopping and lots of things to see and do.

@teledude

Mind sharing the rest of your itinerary dude? Am seriously tempted to join you and "straight-to-gold" it with this fare and your CGK-DXB run, especially if it can be done in 72 hours. Did you book the latter as separate tickets to enable B2B?

Cheers
