Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under Ł300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under Ł500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for Ł520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~Ł235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

MH currently offering KUL-DEL (RT) in Oct/Nov for $311 on the A330 (typically you'd pay more for the A330 flights).

https://www.google.com/flights/#sear...KUL0MH191;sc=b

280 TPs so works out @ Ł0.82/TP though 3 night min stay required.

Can also add a domestic leg in J for an extra 80 TPs for an additional $119 (total cost $430) which works out to be 360 TPs @ Ł0.89/TP.

A lot of the US deals are exEU so need to start in EU the market is less competitive in the US so you don't get as good prices the other way unfortunately. There is some good intra US ones you can do but again most start from LAX if you can get to there?

Random question: How do you book a ticket anywhere with more than six legs? Trying to book a trip from OSL/GOT (they are pretty close) to LAX as a TP run and holiday, but I only find sites (google, ba.com and aa.com) that allow maximum six legs on one booking.

Can I do internal flights from IAH / Houston?
Or do you suggest flying to LAX then doing internal flights on there?

Hi,

I think you are mistaken, what the sites, including BA allow is for you to specify 6 origin+destination combinations. What that means is that say for ARN-HNL (you want ARN-HEL-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL). Ideally you would specify ARN-HEL;HEL-JFK;JFK-HNL and it should come up with the options you want as there are no direct flights JFK-HNL on OneWorld, it will show connecting flights for that combo.

Much easier route is to call BA.

There are tools to book with AA from Matrix, if booking with BA call them. I booked an ARN to Washington today on the phone, original price was over Ł2K, explained what I’d found on Matrix, lady checked with fare department, found problem flight, switched it out, couple of extra hours in HEL but price fell to the expected Ł1042, even had time for a quick chat with her about merits of Matrix and Flyertalk. 560TP, not perfect timings but I got, subject to no changes, 787 to BWI, and two A350 flights to and from HEL. I’m not particularly taken with the idea of TP runs, but happy for long routings to take advantage of extra TP and aircraft types I like.

I haven’t tried your specific example, but I find typically this doesn’t work. Using from and to, to get a two hop routing never seems to work for me. I suspect once you get up to filling 5 or 6 of the 6 available boxes the BA software doesn’t handle the volume of possibilities. I agree it’s easier to call. I’ve never had to pay the call booking charge when doing so.

Anyone one got any better suggestions?

Hello to the collective.

I've got an alaskan cruise next july and was considering the following.

AGP-HEL-EDI-JFK-SEA // YVR-JFK(CX)-CLT*-DUB

TATL in biz, domestic in 1st. Total around GBP2090 (CLT*) or GBP2007 (PHL*) for what I assume to be 910 TP

I can't seem to fit LAX between JFK and SEA, for more TPs given the 5 hour layover. Any more productive routing for a TP run?

Am I right in thinking that only certain US destinations will work for this?

I am thinking about doing something to boost myself up to Gold over Feb/March depending on workload, and for me the best option would be finishing in MCO, as I have friends, there, so would ideally spend a week or a few days with them before making the return leg.

Does that sound possible? Happy to depart from anywhere in Europe.

Help! Need 2 qualifying flights

Hello

I miscalculated slightly - I was a Blue but following a UK-HKG-Japan return trip (different airports along the way each way hence generic label) I made a number of TPs and Bronze quite quickly, and thought I'd go for Silver. I did a CE return to AGP and am now at 465 TP, with a return booked LHR-HEL which will make up the difference (I hope?).

My problem is, I did a few short-haul BA flights earlier in year and thought I'd have enough, but failed to spot that the 4 qualifying flights had to be *after* my Bronze upgrade. My LHR-HEL return is on Finnair, partly to try the A350 but mainly as I wanted a same day return.

So, I will have all the TPs I need, but need 2 BA flights - before Nov 8th. Would need to be a weekday return. Where is best combo of qualifying & cheap/short - just EDI return from LHR or any better ideas?

My other half is already grumpy about the HEL TP run and will have nothing to do with a "let's go to Scotland for the weekend, dear", so this will be a midweek daytime there-and-back...

They don't - the app says they do, but it's a bug. You already have the qualifying flights.
