** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

starting in DME gets more but raises the issue of visas for Russia.

Anyone know of any issues with TPs or aircraft on the SriLankan side of things?
UL has great lie flat seats on the A330 1-2-1, far better than QR on the same aircraft (yes, I did say there is something better than QR), which they use on the DOH-CMB-HKG route.

Service is attentive, if not overly personal. Meals served on trays. Food really shines if you're into Indian subcontinent specialties; plus I found the vegetarian options to be especially delicious.

TPs credited between 2 and 10 days after taking the flights.

How can you book QR+UL FRA-DOH-CMB-HKG?
I tried bookwithmatric but no luck..
UL has now entered a codesharing agreement with QR. It has amended its fares so that you must travel on the UL codeshare, not the QR prime flight.

Code:
IF THE FARE COMPONENT INCLUDES TRAVEL BETWEEN
     GERMANY AND DOH
THEN THAT TRAVEL MUST BE ON
ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING
ANY UL FLIGHT OPERATED BY QR.

Welcome! As mentioned above this run can be combined with connections from UK regions to earn more TPs at a broadly similar £/TP rate (e.g. NCL/ MAN/EDI/GLA-LHR-IST at £368-380 for weekends in November)

For smaller TP requirements/closer to home travel - I've booked LHR to BIO via MAD with Iberia in October for £222, out Saturday return Sunday (120 TPs)

does that change much in terms of the value proposition of this fare? It seems that QR/UL have the same earnings chart for biz class.

Probably not. You will get the same tier points on both metals.

I was responding to how it could be booked as QR + UL. It cannot be booked that way now. It must be all UL (at the marketing level).

My favourite European Route for a TP Run is LPA-LHR which is being sold for a very low price from time to time (like all the canary routes to the UK - same applies for the Cityflyer routes to PMI and AGP). Managed to book that Segment for 0,00€ through a OTA. Best TP Ratio ever.

Interested partly to know if I have this right, as I'm not doing this. But I think there are 320 TP available via Malaysian routing PEN->KUL->BOM return for about £450, for example

https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#se...c=b;a=ONEWORLD

I don't think that's a particularly sensible set of flights because of transfer times, but the prices seem the same for a while into the future. Obviously you need a visa for India and you have to be in Malaysia, but I do and I often am.

Please be gentle with me...

I need to be in NYC for a few days from next Weds 13th or Thurs 14th Sept. Best J fare I can find is ex-LUX for around £1340. Must return on Monday 18th or Tuesday 19th but if Tuesday needs to be the day time flight into LHR.

Does anyone know of any better fares? Especially TP-efficient ones!

Thanks

I tried looking at the LCA-DOH-CMB-HKG on SriLankan airlines site, Qatar site and book with Matrix No luck on any so far plus QR + UL don't recognise HKG as a destination!

Anyone that finds a way let me know.

1340 on eight days' notice? I'd jump on that. I suppose you could try a few roundabout routes (can't pull up HEL, but don't have too much time to try right now), but as a price that looks very good at such notice.

It was always the case that for an I class fare which included a three class A321 transcon you should have gone in the business cabin and earned business TPs. It was also the case that if there was no I available on that specific flight A class was permitted so you would find yourself in the first cabin and earn first TPs. This trick of getting first on the transcon will be dead from 11 January. Going forward a BA fare will only look for I class, and the equivalent AA I class fare will only look for I or D.
Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but I'm slightly confused as I appear to have pulled off the trick that KARFA claimed would no longer be possible after 11 January. I have a booking coming up that involves LAX-JFK on the (presumably) three class A321. I am on an 'I' class fare but for this leg, which is booked as a BA flight number, it has somehow booked into 'A'. Can anyone confirm that I'll definitely earn the full 210 TPs for this leg (MMB says so, but I know it's notoriously unreliable)? Otherwise I am on course to finish this year with 4,995 TPs and need to do something about it.

Yes, you'll earn 210 tps for a leg booked in A on I fare.

Yes, it seems that the particular quirk was closed earlier this year but has been reopened. If you are booked with A selling class on the three class JFK-SFO/LAX flights you will earn 210 TPs.

Right. At the moment though the domestic legs in J have been repriced a bit (lots of the time they are "on sale" and go for about $100, now they're $167) so this has pushed the price of that a bit higher than it usually goes for.

KUL-TPE and KUL-DEL are also about $30 cheaper than BOM. TPE has the added benefit of fewer visa restrictions, but the downside is only one MH flight a day. As for DEL, you can choose to fly on the A330 flight for a better product, but I think it costs about $70 more per leg to do so.
