Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...
For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times
Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.
If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.
Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here
Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.
Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)
Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Hi all,
apologies for a silly question, but do I get tier points for the flights I do take, even if I skip the entire return leg of a booking?
Specifically, this is a LHR-HEL-TLL run. However, I need to get back to London earlier than booked, and was planning to do an Avios redemption from Tallinn straight to London instead.
The question is: I will get the tier points for LHR-HEL-TLL, i.e. 80+20, right?

There seems to be a £1370 CPH - WAS/JFK/BOS fare which routes via HEL;
e.g. CPH-HEL-JFK-DCA at https://goo.gl/flights/o6v8. But I guess thats only 440 TP. I wonder if it is possible to squeeze more points in.

I was trying to get it to route me via PHX, as PHX-LGA is > 2000 miles. But CPH-HEL-LHR-PHX-LGA(-DCA) does not work.
Why not? I don't see anything in the fare rules:

I have been playing with this, and availability is pretty good. Its 60 days advance purchase unfortunately.
I was trying to get it to route me via PHX, as PHX-LGA is > 2000 miles. But CPH-HEL-LHR-PHX-LGA(-DCA) does not work.
Why not? I don't see anything in the fare rules:

Ah excellent, thank you.
I should maybe get myself an expertflyer subscription... Lets see if there is a chance to optimise this further.
edit:
no chance. CPH-HEL-LHR-BOS-JFK-DCA return (40+80+140+40+40)*2 = 680 TP for £1460 = 2.15 £/TP.
Now do I want to fly this?

There's also no PHX-LGA nonstop... you'd need to do JFK and then a taxi to LGA or more conveniently connect via PHL.

I find myself potentially having 21-24th November available for a trip in the US.
Been looking for some trips but can't find anything myself that's a good price. I arrive into PHX at 0808 on 21st November and have an avios ticket booked for PHX-LAS dep 1130 arr1151 so can depart from either PHX or LAS.
I then have a flight booked LAS-LAX on 24th November dep2037 arr2157 for a flight out from LAX the following am.
If anyone knows of any routings I could take during those times/dates or can help me out I'd appreciate it. 400-500TP would be nice but in the grand scheme I'm not too bothered.
Any destination is fine with me also.
Thanks
Jamie

Hi All
Anyone got any creative ideas for the below?
If anything things seem to have gone up a little. Looking to leave dublin on the 21st (give or take day) and come back on the 30th/31st/1st (not bothered - whichever is cheapest). Doesn't have to be ex-dub - although thats one of the easier positioning spots.
I'd like if possible to get the 321T in there and hopefully the AA 777 service to HNL (for lay flat purposes).

Hi All
Looking at a TP Holiday over Christmas/NY. Destination (surprise surprise) would be HNL, I've found things ex-DUB 21/12 to 03/01 DUB LHR JFK LAX HNL and back for €1970. Is that as good as it's likely to get, or am I missing anything?
Any pointers appreciated.
Cheers

I have only checked a few sets of fare rules but the key points for those I have looked at are:
Code:
Category 6: Minimum stay requirements TRAVEL FROM LAST STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO EARLIER THAN 2 DAYS AFTER DEPARTURE FROM FARE ORIGIN. Category 7: Maximum stay requirements TRAVEL FROM LAST STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO LATER THAN 1 MONTH AFTER DEPARTURE FROM FARE ORIGIN. ... Category 14: Travel restrictions VALID FOR TRAVEL COMMENCING ON/AFTER 09AUG 17 AND ON/ BEFORE 31MAR 18. Category 15: Sales restrictions RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE AND TICKETS ISSUED ON/AFTER 09AUG 17 AND ON/BEFORE 23AUG 17.

Thanks lorcancoyle and Calchas.
I'm with Calchas on this. Realistically can't get a flight before 8.30pm (unless gambling on a nice tailwind and on-time departure). Could do Dublin as well as domestic, as either way you won't have passport control, but domestic probably safer. Bigger risk is Sunday morning, if departing T5 and no checked baggage you'd have benefit of walking off domestic and into departures area fairly quickly, but landing T5 and having to get to T4 (airside transit?) adds risk.
If you have a checked bag I'd say it's impossible as need to either
- drop it in left luggage before catching onward flight on Saturday (if T5 can't do airside transit, if you go to T4 first you're going to really struggle to get a flight)
- collect from baggage claim and recheck on Saturday, then do same again Sunday
