Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Kayak are pulling in flights for 6-9 December for £185 via FlySharp, and I think Malta for a similar price.

I decided to go for Madeira as somewhere new, and hope I can pick up another couple of CE bargain 2-3 day breaks in the next round of sales. My TP year doesn't start until October so there's no rush.

I'd like to do an inter-US run in September, budget up to $1500, as many TPs as I can muster. Ideally starting on the west-coast.

Caveat: I cannot (for tedious visa-processing related issues) leave the United States. I can't go anywhere which would mean needing to re-enter the United States.

Any ideas? Most things I've seen have involved getting to PTY or SJU, but that'd be no bueno in my current scenario.

You should be okay with SJU. Legally it is an unincorporated territory of the US so flying between the US and SJU is like any other domestic flight in the US.

Yes, for SJU this is correct, no immigration at SJU or when returning to mainland US. Sadly SJU never seems to be as cheap as it once used to be.

I think STT and STX are the same in having no immigration controls but hopefully someone will confirm.

At STT there is a CBP Pre-Departure inspection, after that checked baggage are dropped for screening and passengers proceed to TSA security and gate area.

Because of this AA.com also suggests that minimum bad drop time at STT is 90 minutes, for STX there is no such information though?

Are bookings made through OTAs like TravelUp eligible for TP's? If so, there are flights available in December LGW to Madeira (2 nights) - 160TPs in CE for £185.

Silver status would be my aim for the double baggage allowance and lounge access

Thanks!

Curious about the LGW-FNC trip. I know it is double TPs (40 x 2 = 80) each way, but the fare you mention is one way (although if you go midweek there are some legs at £136 in December); so it should be £370 for 180TP = £2.05 per TP?

No, that's for the return, 160TP for £188 inc. CC fees (£1.18 per TP)

The cheapest fare finder is picking up flights for a 2/3 night stay at £120 each way. I picked out some of the dates that BA had availability for and plugged it into Kayak to find any flights with OTAs, which turned up the £188 fare. The cheapest for a day trip on the Low Fare Finder is £261 each way currently.

There were still a few flights available at that price when I checked last night

The OH's TP year finishes at the start of September and she's 320 TP short of Gold. Now personally I'm not hugely encouraging this, as once she has Gold there's even more excuse for unnecessary recurrent expenditure to maintain a piece of plastic, not that I've ever entertained such a frivolous activity myself, of course.

However, hypothetically speaking, what are some reasonable suggestions to get 320TP in the next six or seven weeks? It looks like a couple of trips to HEL might work, or four trips to LUX, but both would be about 700-800 quid.

Any other favourable suggestions?

The PRG-SFO fare can yield 720 TPs for £1,288 - £1.79/TP which is not a bad return in the current climate.

Throw in a HEL rotation on the outbound and inbound, and you can yield 880 TPs for £1,432 - £1.63/TP.

Better yields can be achieved using the OTP-PHX fare.

Are the OTP-PHX fares still around?

The DCA one I posted is probably most relevant if you need to get to NYC and want to TP run over as close to the city as possible.

Anyone got any ideas a for a 500-600 TP run starting in SFO or SJC in late July/first week of August?

Wondering if there's something that doesn't need quite as many as 16 sectors!

Not quite as good overall, but I could price PRG-HEL-LHR-JFK-LAX-SFO/SFO-LHR-HEL-PRG for £1,364, with transatlantics on BA codes (obvs. R/T on BA metal too). I think that's only c. £100 more than before for routings via HEL and a BA code/metal transatlantic (that makes it GUFable I believe)

Can optimise return for TPs via JFK and MAD I believe, but Iberia A340 does not look appealing...
