Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...
For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times
Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.
If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.
Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here
Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.
Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)
Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Great itinerary there, having looked again I think that's the best way to do it.
There's actually a pretty good chance of getting a same day Avios flight to reposition back to HEL/TLL if that helps catch another connection.
You need an odd number of returns pivoted around a Sat night in order to make the fares work and 2 turnarounds is a sensible way to limit missed connections having a knock on effect.
I think I'm going to try 3 of these for 1800TP's. Not that it's worth much but triple avios on base points if flown prior to march 31st for 8 sectors as well. "Easiest" way to gold from London that I've seen for some time.
Here's hoping for something quite tasty to emerge to HNL or on qatar, looking for an excuse to go for GGL again

As this is my first post it could be entirely in the wrong place (apologies in advance).
I am off to Bali in October this year for my honeymoon, I am trying to get there in business/first. My plan is as follows;
Sign up for a BA Amex card (referred by a friend for extra points). Trigger the minimum spend within the first 3 months to get the bonus Avios, cancel and wait 6 months to do the same thing again. I have read it is possible to to have my partner sign up for another Amex card and do the same thing but I'm not too sure it is doable. In doing this it will allow me to redeem a companion ticket (to be used to travel to Bali) and just pay the taxes.
I also want/need to get to silver or gold (I am assuming this will help with the ticket to Bali). Reading through the thread it is possible to gain enough tier points from a single trip with a bit of planning?
This could be a complete disaster.....or an absolute blast. I think I might create my own thread to provide some laughs.
Any thoughts?
Thanks. Alex.

BA don't fly to Bali so you can get to SIN or KUL. However, currently there is also a way to get to DPS from LHR in J for £1200 on MH (see premium fares thread) making the entire process a lot less complicated and only slightly more expensive.
Also keep an eye out for the QR sale starting on the 9th.
Business class flights have become much cheaper, especially if you don't focus on BA. Redemptions are not as valuable as they once were.

Thanks for the replies.
It is October 2017.
Still getting to grips with all the codes, MH (Malaysian Airlines?) QR (Qatar?)
Is the difference between business and first worth all the extra effort?
The sideline of trying to get gold on BA becomes pointless then if I book with another airline, is it still worth it for other benefits?
Thanks for the patience.

Those questions are more for another thread. Personally I don't think chasing Gold is worth it, unless you fly a lot in economy and need lounge access.
BA F is nice but not massively more impressive than QR J. MH is also pretty good. It's a bed in the sky after all. There are many very good airlines out there. I chose GA to Bali this year. I paid around £1600 ex LHR with one leg to CGK in F. Arguably one of the best F class products out there.
Maybe the mods can move these posts to one of the many threads discussing these topics? You can also find many more (and different) opinions there. I'm on my mobile so I can't easily link to them.

I take it GA is Garuda Airlines? I've seen a lot of results from them when searching.
Best I can so far (Oct 14th to 22nd) is around £1700 pp in business.
Looks like first might be out of reach (trying to stay under £3k for two people).
Again, thank you for the response.

What prices did you get for the flights? Booking 3 pricing up as £355 for the dates I'm looking at. I'm tight so might nest them across 2 weekends, on amex travel you can book TLL-LHR cheaper than the other way around. Will have a play with spanning the bookings over multiple weekends to see if I can get some price out of it.

I take it GA is Garuda Airlines? I've seen a lot of results from them when searching.
Best I can so far (Oct 14th to 22nd) is around £1700 pp in business.
Looks like first might be out of reach (trying to stay under £3k for two people).
Again, thank you for the response.

Is the 25 min turnaround possible at TLL? Is it just the same aircraft? i.e you don't get off?
Interesting, you'll either love or hate TLL after that I imagine!

I'm going to play with the dates to try and minimise a missed connection at LHR having knock on effects if possible.

Is that £400 discount based on different cards? I may have misread the Amex T&Cs but it looked like once per card.

Thanks so much for your kindness, KARFA.
My husband is presently GOLD but needs to get 615 TPS by Feb.8th to retain his Gold Status. I have just read about a great deal on the LHR-HEL-TLL trip for 200 TPS and only 232 GBPs. Are there still seats for this weekend on that deal and the new Finnair plane? Also need to go from GLA or EDI down to LHR.
We are both retired and able to travel anytime we can get a super deal for TPs.
My status is also GOLD but will need to get 1,060 TPS by May to retain my Gold status.
Any super great MR deals that we can do from Scotland or LHR that would get my husband his 615 in one go? We would be travelling together and would appreciate business class. I have never flown in First so if something fabulous was available could possibly be tempted.
Thanks for any help you can offer us.
