Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

MrMutton/RossMcD - thanks. Got it to work but cant seem to pay on AA.com.

To resolve the overnight challenge... used ITA Matrix multi city (I was using round trip before with the routing codes). This made it easy to specify the overnight in London and get exactly what I was looking for.

Copied the itinerary to BookwithMatrix. Followed the link through to AA.com. Everything looked spot on... but as soon as I change the country to UK for the credit card payment it throws me out saying ‘please restart your search’. It mentions making sure the country of residence matches the credit card... which it does already.

A related question - how do you get so many flights into ITA matrix - it seems to max out at 6 legs
Yes all Business class. 720 TP.

To get around the 6 flights you use routing codes. So you are basically instructing it to go from A to B via C, D etc etc. This thread has quite a few screen shots of how to do this.

If you call AA they're very helpful. When this happened to me - I was booking an ex PRG - I paid with Paypal on the same screen as I came to from bookwithmatrix. Nothing happened, but I had a record locator, and calling up with that they were able to to figure out what had happened and I paid on the call with a card. The amount on paypal was reserved but eventually disappeared. It was all to do with having payment in the "wrong" currency for the displayed fare.

I was also able to choose seats for all legs on the same call. I found them extremely good, though as I recall it took a couple of calls to finalise the booking completely. In both cases the call was answered within a couple of rings once past the initial menus.

Thanks. Phoned AA up. Took quite a while but all done now. The agent was excellent.

@ringingup... managed to use the $100 AA voucher I got for the LAX catering issues last month.

Just throwing this out there in case useful to anyone, being a £1.36 per TP routing at £217 for 160TP, it's the cheapest I've come across for BA Europe I think. Jersey to Bordeaux (two night stay).

https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#se...=ONEWORLD;eo=e

There's also a Friday to Sunday routing but a much earlier start needed.

You could fly LGW-CTA for 160TP as well for the same price. Bisonrav picked up on a JR-CTA fare for £297 which would earn 240TP. There are some good deals out there

I've booked trips to Barcelona (£140), Catania(£217) and Bordeaux (£128) in the coming months. They appear to be ex-UK only, so no opportunity for some very cheap B2B TP runs. I was pleasantly surprised to find dates around the Easter holidays available

I'm currently only a 160 term points away from gold this year and I was looking for suggestions.

I'm free during the week after January 20th.

I'm also Bristol based so it makes potential ideas a lot more costly once train fairs have been added in.

Here are things I have come up with:

1) LHR-IST-LHR (Total cost £473 or £2.96/TP)

Flights: £317.00
Hotel £96
Train to Heathrow £60

2) LHR-LUX-LHR-NCL-LHR-LUX (Total costs £447 or £2.48/TP)
Flights: £387.00
Accommodation: Free
Train to Heathrow £60

3) LHR-PMI-LHR (Total costs £409 or £2.55/TP)

Flights: £349
Accomdation : None - day return
Train to Heathrow: £60

Megabus will take the £60 train down to £25! Plus it’s a good service from the West to T2 or T5

Also some cheap fares to Dublin on Ryanair as an alternative starting point. Might look at dub to ams to jer return?

Is it 600 TP or more than 600 for Silver

Hi. Bit of a basic question, but need to be sure on this one. If I achieve exactly 600 TP, am I correct in thinking that I immediately move to Silver and stay Silver for the whole of the next membership year? Would hate to think I need 601 TP and miss SIlver Tier by 1!!! Thanks.

I'd like to go do a weeklong LHR -> YUL trip sometime this year. I'd be paying 450 quid for the trip in Economy more or less, but I was thinking I could accrue some tier points at the same time. Any way to do this efficiently? I was searching fares from other places in Europe, but didn't come up with anything really interesting. I value TPs at around 1.5 GBP/TP, but that's without the 450 GBP I'd be paying for the flight anyway.

Given that it will cost me about £200 to reserve 2 seats in CW (241 redemption) one way to Hong Kong, then probably roughly the same again on the way back from Singapore, although id probably only pay it on the outbound, would it be worth me trying to achieve bronze to get the 7 day advance seat reservations... is there usually 2 window/aisle seats (A380 outbound, 777 inbound) together at this point in time?

By the end of next week i will have about 190 points... any cheap ideas to get me up there or is the seat availability likely to be low and therefore not worth pursuing?

My CW flights are in sept, my tier point year ends in Oct
