** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

I am actually sorted for next year, but I am thinking about the year after, if I could secure 2 years for one set of TP runs it would be great.
In short, yes,

If you get 1500 TPs between 9 February 2018 and 31 March you would then have gold for the rest of that current membership year (so from when you hit 1500 to 8 February 2019) and one full membership year after (9 February 2019 to 8 February 2020), and your card expires at the end of the first full month after (i.e. expiry date 31 March 2020).

In this hypothetical case, would you see the 2020 expiry right away, or first 2019, then after 9 Feb 2019, see the extension to 2020?

Once you hit the 1500 TP you should see the 2020 date straight away I think.

I need 125TP in next couple weeks to retain gold. Have looked at a few options but nothing jumping out at this stage. Is it best to do short-haul plus in CE, or do a couple of short little CE hops across Europe? Is there any cheap ex-EU cities out there at the moment?

Thanks

LUX and LIN are quite cheap at the moment, and if you want to do it in one trip then KEF is £327 and a very nice place to visit. Not outstanding £ per TP but not bad if you’re under pressure!

KEF is shorthaul+, therefore 160TP return, which is quite good at that price (£2.04/TP).

Having just been told I will be spending 1-2 days a week in LHR T5 next year, I have found the urge to get CCR access to make the stay more pleasurable (plus get some of the other perks too). However, I am WAY off hitting the target. I am trying to figure out if collecting an extra ~2300TP in the next 8 weeks is feasible. Yes I know, I know, I am an idiot and its not worth it, etc. However, I am thinking of this more of an investment and reducing my business flight spend next year in lieu of getting the status now to enjoy for the next year, rather than achieve it right at the end of the year when I probably wont need it for the following year.

So far I have found a possible OTP -> PHX trip which nets around 1000TP for £1500ish or £3.5K to go first (probably not worth it for the extra 240tps). That leaves the other 1000 to get, I am struggling to get a PTY run to work, but if I could that would be another 800. And then I would to get 500TP.

I am open to all sorts of suggestions, crazy or not, expensive or not that would get me there in time. For information it would be the 22/01/17 that would be my collection end date.

Don't all collection years end on the 8th of the month?

Interested if not the case! Other than that wish you luck with your quest.. if you have the time then the next few days should in theory open up some interesting fares... keep us posted with how you go!

Nah, don't bother !

My CCR card runs out at Easter and I'm not making any special effort to top up to 5K (just as I don't spend extra money to go F).

For me, J cabins and the FLounge are perfectly adequate.

YMMV

I found this one trying to figure out how to minimize my buy-up costs on known 2018 travel.

22NOV £1.43/TP £172 120 DCA-(LGA/BOS/PHL)-CLT-RDU one-way (or reverse) I/I/I

USD $228. Haven't booked it yet, but Priceline validated the price. In 2018, TueWed is mostly available Jan/Feb/April/early May. Mon/Thu/Sat also have limited availability in the first half of February. Some Mon/Thu/Sat are also available for $236/$247/$267, mostly in Jan/Feb.. Fri/Sun and all of March are losers across the board.

ETA: Fare code is QUAIXSI3

8th + 14 day grace period = 22nd

Though, I can’t recall if that grace period is offered for the CCR or GGL boundary.

From what I remember from previous posts no, or maybe it was GUFs that it was a no. Hmm!

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the route and the dates of the 1000 TP for £1500, OTP->PHX?
