** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Do you need to get all tps in one trip? consider doing a cheap day trip to EDI/GLA or spend weekend in LUX.

Be careful not to book MH in I class which earns no tps.

I need 520TP by 8th Feb.

what are the chances of something suitable coming up in a BA (or other) Sale before then, so i can hit it in one trip?

Or should i start booking some 80tp e/w runs now to keep my TP total ticking over?

Could be more expensive than grabbing one of the exARN on QR for a comfortable 560

Well, what about LHR-HEL-DOH-BKK-DOH-HEL-LHR, is it the same 720TP? Can that be possible if to book on the same ticket by travel agent?

It is possible to book it on a single ticket:

It's £1559 for HEL-DOH-BKK-DOH-HEL and £432 for LHR-HEL-LHR, if booked separately. If you opt for the separate tickets, allow extra time on the outbound - ideally overnight at HEL.

Does anyone know if any of the TLL/Scotland routes are still possible:

24APR £0.90/TP £400 440 TLL-BA/AY-HEL-LON-GLA-KOI-ABZ ; TLL-BA/AY-HEL-LON-GLA-SDZ-ABZ (see post #1221)

I couldn't get ITA to price up below £700 for any dates through to June - or has this died along with the TLL £232 fare?

I believe that some of the island flights, for example SDZ, are seasonal and only fly in the summer.

Odd - it was showing the route, pricing it - but mostly showing in Economy codes rather than Business I class - and just no-where near the £400 price.

I am sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be able to confirm/deny this, but I think that it was linked to the cheap TLL fare from London.

The ability to fly ABZ-islands-GLA- as the starting point for a relatively small amount more was just a fortunate side effect.

But I don't know this for certain, and I am not an expert on the fares.

Edit: Is it possible that the unavailability of business might also be affected by the recent changes with LoganAir/FlyBe? Similar to how BRR is no longer a codeshare? I know from information posted here previously that the 'via Scottish islands' codeshare option only applied within certain time limits - if it was greater than this, it bumped the price up as it wasn't available as a codeshare.

If you've got someone to keep you company, you can get 740 TP doing ARN/OSL-DOH-PER-BNE-SYD-DOH-OSL/ARN for around £1400pp, or via PER again on the return for an extra 100TP.

Booked this itinerary for next summer and upgraded the transatlantic flights to First with Avios. 620Tp's.

Had to call twice though - the first agent I got through to gave me a massive lecture on how I was "exploiting the system unfairly", that "the airlines are looking to close this loop-hole" and "I absolutely should not be using the websites that gave me this routing"...!

Unless it was said in jest, and it sounds like not, what an absolutely outrageous thing to tell a customer. Did the first agent actually refuse to deal with the booking? If so, I’d have asked for a supervisor and complained.

He made a big deal about how he couldn't book the flights which were BA aircraft using an AA code... and then started telling me all the things I mentioned above. I had a meeting after lunch so didn't have time to challenge him. He made it sound like I was using some seedy website to unscrupulously deprive BA of money - he actually said "you should be paying about £9,000 for this itinerary." Sadly not said in jest.

Called back and got an extremely helpful chap who booked it no problem.
