Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under 300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under 500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for 520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Just done my MUC-DOH-CMB-HKG on QR and UL, will be doing the return next month.

I was actually Ex-LHR on BA to connect this journey, I spared 4 hours and BA flight delayed for an hour. 3 hours transit for waiting the luggages and redoing the check in is more than enough. MUC T1 is relatively small and everything is just smooth and efficient. I would recommend people to do MUC rather than FRA if you are not starting from these airports.

FRA-DOH on A350 (5h40m)- not the best on QR but still very good. Never disappointed by QR.

Layover in DOH (22h55m)- I chose to stay in the airport for a day just I love QR lounge in DOH. Also I need to do my global entry interview. 247 buffet. Good internet connection. Great shower. I felt like recharging myself for a new journey. Just great. Long layover in DOH wasn't a problem.

DOH-CMB on A330 (4h55m) - first time on UL. New nice aircraft. Movies are little bit outdated but not a problem. Wifi available with a fee.

Layover in CMB (3h10) - it wasn't to pleasant. After my layover in DOH this was a big downgrade. The lounge is packed with so many tables in different sizes. The buffet wasn't looking good I wasn't even dare to try them. Looked like it had been sitting there for a long time. The airport is small and outdated. Instead of recharging myself I felt like it was a continuation of a stressful journey.

CMB-HKG (5h35m) - A321. Bad not the worst. The cabin actually smells like a toilet!! The leather seat were so worn. Food are alright. Old movies. Old fashion recliner seats. It just completely invaded the space of the person behind.

Undoubtful the TPs are delicious. But if not the TPs I would never consider going on UL again. To be honest the price are not the best too my ticket is about 16xx pounds. Pretty worried on my way back I will have a day layover in CMB, although UL is going to provide the free accommodation. Hopefully won't be too bad. Anyway it is good to try out a new airline.

Which lounge were you in CMB? I really like the Serendib buffet, though their use of chili is a bit on the heavy side in some of the dishes.

Max Club Europe is 10 rows on an A319???

(12 on an A320). Maybe you were on a larger aircraft than you thought?!

I'm currently on target for 1250tp and missus and youngish son will be on 1280 (1320 if they get a two week grace).

We have to do a positioning to AMS in CE in dec, but I'm not sure if I should buy those outright (216) or use RFS. If we buy outright, I'll need 170 to reach gold and they'll need 140/100. If not then I'll need 250 and they'll need 220/180.

We have Feb half term left to make a trip to collect the requisite TP. Was thinking perhaps buying AMS in cash and then we could do LHR-MAD-BCN for 120TP which would just tip them over the edge if they got a 2 week extension, but that would leave me 50 short. I could do a quick run somewhere by myself if required.

Or is there another obvious way to get the whole ~250TP in one go at a reasonable price that I've missed? I can't (won't be allowed to) do crazy runs so needs to be reasonably family friendly.

Thanks!

Assuming you want to do it with flights you're already taking the family on plus one trip away, you might as well book the AMS trip to get to 170/140.

Then you have a choice of LGW to Malta for 271 from a Tuesday to Friday, LGW to FNC for two or three nights from 322, or LCY to REK 332, Thu to Sunday, all available throughout February, all giving 160. Malta would be my preference, it's a nice destination with interesting things to see, and very easy and cheap to get around, hotels should be reasonable in Feb too. That means they'd be gold in the "extension" period so would get some immediate benefits.

That clears the family before the end of the TP year, and leaves you 10 to go, which is pretty easy - quick day return to Madrid from LGW maybe, 65.

Perhaps you are right and I just wasn't paying attention! That flight is normally an A319 and now the BA safety video no longer tells you what aircraft type you're on / how many exits there are, I think I just sat down in CE and didn't notice it was an A320.

I suppose if you always sit in row 1, it doesnt matter how many rows are behind you. @:-)

I spent a few hours in the Serendib lounge couple of days ago. Would say the lounge layout is not the greatest and it's pretty small and crammed at times but the service was very attentive and the drink selection good enough incl. Champagne which was Taittinger if my memory serves me right. Would not want to spend too much time there but it's certainly not the worst. UL in flight catering was actually very good on the A330 so I'd opt to eat on the plane instead the lounge.

Good evening Hive mind, I'm looking for a EX EU route to KUL 4th,5th December to maximise TPs return on 10th or 11th
Or again a Ex EU that also goes to KUL but with a 2 day stop over in HKG 2nd/3rd Dec so leaves 30th or 1st. With that option I guess I could also do it open jaw to HKG and return KUL with a separate ticket HKG to KUL

Any tips?
Have found a Royal Jordanian at the mo TXL,AMM,BKK,KUL for around 1650 that returns 440 TPs but looking to better that if possible.

ex-AMS on BA/CX/RJ/MH, but only 420 TPs (the MH leg won't earn). On the upside, availability permitting, you could upgrade the BA long hauls to F with Avios (which can sometimes deliver the upgraded cabin's TPs). The price can be brought down a bit if you're more flexible with dates:

That route looks ideal is there a way of forcing Matrix to get 72 hour stop over in HKG and then a few days in KUL to return 10th?

Apologies. my first attempts were coming in at 9000 but a little bit of a tweak here and there and low and behold got the correct dates down to 1700

Play with Matrix, it's there though availability might be an issue.
