Having the chance to have a no-pressure look at the current-gen samsung phones and play with the GearVR in the F lounge last week allowed me to 'tick-off' something I've meant to do for a while, and in a much more pleasant manner than hanging around a high street phone shop.

Similarly the headphones promotion from some time ago allowed one to look at a product which many in the lounge have an interest in acquiring if they don't already have at least one pair - a set of high-end noise cancelling headphones.

In both cases the stands were not 'selling' per se but providing information in that one could not purchase in the lounge. Also unless I am mistaken the area used for such stands is beside the gold bar and hence in a brightly-lit section of the lounge, making the comments about brightness a little difficult to understand.

These stands don't bother me in the least, and if they partially fund having a slightly better class of Red in the lounge then more power to them!

If i want to look at the new Samsung phones or noise cancelling headphones I can walk down to the shop that sells them. I don't need them shoved in my face. There's enough of that in LHR as it is.

Can anyone see a CX or EK stuffing their lounges full of these adverts? It's a very Ryanair/Easyjet thing to do.

I liked the Samsung display and actually tested a new phone model when I was last at the GF. I understand that this was down to the fact that I use Samsung devices, but I was glad that I could do it in the lounge and then go over to the busy Dixons and buy what I wanted. Had I not been interested in Samsung devices the stand would not have bothered me at all though and I probably would not have even noticed it. It is not as if they were coming to each passenger offering to test them. You can only barely spot the stand. Do not see a problem here.

Apologies if posted before, but the Samsung stand is gone from Galleries South.

Samsung seems to be invading all sorts of places with their 'aggressive advertising'.

But yes the question should be asked, is a premium lounge the right place to have such advertisements? BA, for financial reasons, i am sure will say yes.

To demonstrate how intrusive I find the stand - I was not even aware it was for Samsung. I had noticed that it had mobile phones on there, but as I'm not in the market for a new one right now I simply ignored it.

As for the lounges being "stuffed" with advertising - I know that hyperbole is de rigeur on BAFT, but come on!

I sat on the CCR terrace the other day and the Samsung display did not impact my relaxation whatsoever. No one shoved a phone in my face though, that definitely would have ruined the vibe.

EK has extensive shopping and brand promotion in their First lounge in DXB (a great facility by all accounts), as I noted upthread, so I think that is not the best comparison.

You could argue that the placement is better and more separated from the rest of the lounge, but there's certainly no shortage of it.

I like how authentically scuffed and worn the CCR armchairs are on slide 10 "brochure placement"!

Is it really hyberbole? It's fairly relentless now in Galleries Club at least between the manned displays, pop up banners everywhere and promo magazines littered around.

It's gone! The CCR terrace is back to its former peaceful self.
