Also, assuming it all goes to plan, even if you pay, you will only be eligible for WTP tier points and avios, whereas if you'd been in a paid CW fare, you'd get the full F benefits.

(And I'd certainly take CW both ways over CW out and WTP back, if it's a question of which one to upgrade).

Would it be possible to go to SFO's BA ticketing desk(I live near this airport) earlier in the day since there is more activity here and try my luck in a same day AUP?
similar question - next week I'm flying WT+ LAX to LHR but now realize I have a connection from LHR to MAN domestic, so I think that will shut me out of getting a POUG? (in the past, with simple ticket LAX-LHR only with no connection, I have had POUG twice, but not offered a POUG when I have had connections).

was hoping for POUG chance since flights are not full mid January. Does AUP have to be same day as departure ? what if one calls BA prior to 24 hours or goes to airport desk prior to 24 hours before ? anyone know if AUP at lower than online standard rates is possible?

Yes that's correct you won't be offered a POUG but there have been sporadic reports of it on FT but I've never seen it myself and I connect from the regions. Sometimes I think people get a lttle confused with the fare difference.

No you can't phone up for an AUP. See the first post.

How to get an AUP
They are only available on the day of travel from the airport. You cannot ring up for them or arrange it in advance. It is subject to availability of both seats and facilities at the airport concerned.

I was hoping to get one of the startling value c.£100 ET -> CE OTP-LHR AUP to add a few TP. A POUG then appeared at OLCI for £239, very similar to the £230 that the outbound AUP cost. After a bit of dithering I took the POUG, thinking that the AUP might end up being very be very similar.

At the airport I'm not sure where I'd have asked for the AUP. No proper BA staff, and lounge is shared - with no ticketing agents. Looking at seating availability and colleagues tickets I suspect there was no AUP capacity anyway. In short pleased I took the POUG, and am wondering if it might be handy to list how to get an AUP at various outstations.

Thanks, that is what I thought. But there is some chance of AUP even with a connecting flight into domestic BA? if so, I will try to get to the LAX desk reasonably early and ask.

I had been thinking about booking my connecting UK domestic flight as a completely separate reservation. However, there can be downsides to doing that, in case the 1st leg flight is delayed, and with baggage transfer to the next flight.

It is strange to me that BA's IT system cannot handle POUGs with connecting flights, as now on MMP, you can go in and upgrade single segments using the standard fares without any change to the domestic flight. oh well.

Having a domestic connection doesn't really affect an AUP as it's something you have to actually ask for at the Airport on the day. It's always worth checking for any Club World availability upgrade using avios (UuA) on ba.com

It can be surprising how it can open up even on the day of the flight itself.

In 2017 I still find it hard to believe that the BA IT can't handle POUG's and it looks likley to stay that way I think.

I upgraded at OTP last year, you go to the ticket desk 2 hours before the flight departure time, and when I did it the member of looked totally unsurprised. Given this has been one of the tier point bargains for some time BA might have decided to make a change though. Look forward to someone else trying before i'm back there in May.

good question.
If one wants to ask for AUP from WT+ to CW, whats the proper protocol? Should one go through the (likely long) WT / WT+ check in line and ask there? Is it rude to go through the CW check in line even though my ticket is WT+?

For my Tues flight, third party seat maps show quite a bit of availability in CW and First. I think due to my domestic UK connection I was not eligible for POUG. Standard upgrade from WT+ to CW using normal fares is $6000 one way. I dont want to pay that. But I would gladly do AUP if approx $1000 or so. But not sure exactly who to ask.
In Los Angeles, BA advises check in 3 hours prior to flight, at the latest 2 hours prior. It appears the check in counters open 3.5 hours prior to flight as its the first BA flight of the day. I guess I will go in at 3.5 prior to flight and ask at checkin counter.

The general procedure is to find a ticketing agent, which usually means not queuing in the check-in lines . That's easy at LHR, other UK, etc as you can go straight to a relevant desk. I always start with far right (First area) of T5 check-in zone which is usually very quiet. Or lounge desk if I didn't use that for some reason. There are notes above on this general approach I think, although we're both suggesting a quick addition to the Wiki to say where to go at various locations would be helpful .

This is what threw me at OTP. Is it a BA or OW ticketing desk? Does every airport have a relevant desk with someone who will know what this is, or is there a magic GDS locator that will help them find it if needed ?

Given that 6 rows of CW were full and the back of the plane seemed quite busy I'm not sure if they would have added an extra CW row that late (although I'm assuming this is what happened on the way out since I was the only pax in row 5 at back of CW). Overall feeling reasonably comfortable with the inbound outcome, although cheaper would have been better.

Should that be "airside" ?

the ticketing desk had quite a line. So I went up to the CW checkin line and told them I am WT+ but want to AUP to CW. They were fine with that and did the payment at the check in desk. $1050, which sounds consistent with whats on the POUG and AUP wiki. Will try to add to the wiki.

oh, I don't have enough posts to edit the wiki. If someone wants to do that, here' s mine:

AUP: LAX to LHR. $1050

someone posted this rate on the AUP wiki with a ? I think mine now confirms this rate.

I had a search on the forum and couldn't find an answer to this. Can you get AUP if you have AA ticket on BA metal?
