POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner (example from MMB below). You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.
Short haul routes from LON to/from Europe
A price in pounds indicates a ticket issued from London, other currencies indicate prices for tickets issued overseas (e.g. singles or returns originating from CDG priced in Euros). Multiple prices indicate a range of fares are on offer. Note that LCY prices currently seem to be on a different basis to LGW and LHR (cheaper, in other words).

Booked a one way hotline ticket on HAM-LHR in economy. Paid £79 and upgrade is being offered at £484! ��
Has anyone ever experienced something like that before?
Upgrade offer is not appearing at the top of the page though. I have to go to the option to upgrade the flight with money to see this figures.

JFK> LHR WTP>CW $723 for travel at the end of this week
This is dropped from $850 when I booked the ticket a month ago.
LHR>JFK WT>WTP $279 for early next week.
Initially booked WT both ways and the cost was $515 for the round trip. Got a POUG for ~$200 JFK>LHR WT>WTP as soon as booking was confirmed. It seemed exorbitant, and when I checked online, I was able to get a WTP to LHR and WT to JFK for $635- a difference of only $120! Since it was within 24 hours, I canceled and rebooked.

That's a basic fare upgrade figure, not a POUG, so it takes what you paid already, adds in the fare difference and probably a change fee. Unless travelling on a return ticket over the weekend, the CE fare can easily be this high, indeed it may be cheaper to throw away your ET ticket and start again. Unless you see the key words "limited special", it isn't a POUG.

October 2016: bought husband’s flight on separate PNR to mine, £418 return in WT from LHR-JFK-LHR (work booked me in WTP).
November 2016: grabbed a limited time offer to upgrade his outbound LHR-JFK from WT>WTP for £157. No inbound upgrade offered from then, except insane pricing.
5 March 2017: with 7 days until online checkin, gave up and paid £54 to select a seat for his inbound JFK-LHR in WT.
11 March 2017: limited time offer to upgrade inbound JFK-LHR from WT>WTP for £189 appeared - grabbed it.
Final flight costs for returns in WTP: me £678 (bought October 2016), him £764 with November and March upgrades.
13 March 2017: flew our inbound BA178 JFK-LHR, leaving ahead of the snow storm.
Slightly baffled by the system's logic in offering a decent upgrade so close to the flight i.e. when the snowstorm was expected to hit some time on Monday evening. I would have thought it would stop offering WTP upgrades to ensure capacity for people on flex WTP tickets to switch from Mon/Tues pm flights to our Mon am flight.
WTP was completely full on the day - online check-in wouldn't issue him with a seat and they had to call up to request a seat be allocated once we got to JFK, so I assume some later arrivals were pushed up into CW.

Final flight costs for returns in WTP: me £678 (bought October 2016), him £764 with November and March upgrades.
13 March 2017: flew our inbound BA178 JFK-LHR, leaving ahead of the snow storm.
Slightly baffled by the system's logic in offering a decent upgrade so close to the flight i.e. when the snowstorm was expected to hit some time on Monday evening. I would have thought it would stop offering WTP upgrades to ensure capacity for people on flex WTP tickets to switch from Mon/Tues pm flights to our Mon am flight.
WTP was completely full on the day - online check-in wouldn't issue him with a seat and they had to call up to request a seat be allocated once we got to JFK, so I assume some later arrivals were pushed up into CW.

I was offered, and accepted, a POUG for each of two passengers from WT+ to CW from LHR to MCT (London to Muscat, Oman) for £450 in March 2017.

Both POUGs were available for quite a long time, I took the outbound one about 2 days before departure, the return was also offered even before the outbound departure up until checkin for the return.

If you are in the 380, and perhaps likely to end up on the main deck, there is quite a hefty improvement by going to WTP on the upper deck, if you can get 2 pairs along the side, it's a long flight even if you sleep well. There again it's still a grand.
