BA2039 LGW-MCO on 1st April is showing 32J, then oddly 32W and 3-3-3 Y. Has the programme come forward a month (https://www.routesonline.com/news/38...routes-in-s18/ had changes from 7th May)?

I'm travelling 2nd April and was hoping to move to the 1st - will CW be improved in the refit?

This wouldn't be the first report of odd / hybrid / incompletely-changed seat maps. See, for example: Densified 777 LGW seat maps

Will the IFE in CW be upgraded during the densification? Flying CW for first time LGW-MCO in November 2018. Great forum btw. (First time poster). Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum and welcome to the Flyertalk as well TaxiTiger, and thank you for joining up with us here.

We have been told that the LGW refits will end up with the Panasonic eX3 system in all cabins, which is a big step up from the existing Rockwell Collins system used on LGW's 777s. The eX3 one of the best IFE systems available inflight.

Fantastic, thanks for the quick reply. Any idea how long the program will take, in other words, should all the LGW 777's be updated by November?

In a quick answer... No.

It takes 30 days to refit or refurb a 777. The first one just went in, so there might be 8 refurb done by November if all goes to plan. But that’s tough and I can’t remember how many are due for this so ALL is optimistic.

G-VIIX seems to have come back from Singapore on 1st March after its refit so may see it out and about soon.

Slightly odd that all of those (outbounds) show the smaller J cabin but only the first 4 have 3-4-3 Y with the others (and other J-effected flights further out) still showing 3-3-3. I guess if you're travelling Y you need to plan based on the J seat map if you're trying to avoid a 3-4-3. Did wonder, with the lingering odd maps, if they were going to start operating the refurbs as 3-3-3 (crewing issues?) but that now doesn't look to be the case.

I've seen the following dates given for the refresh - I assume it relates to entry into service date as the first refreshed 777 (IIX) has today's date (5th Mar) given.

3 Class
IIX - 5th March (converted from 4 Class to 3 Class)
IIR - 20th April
IIO - 23rd May
IIP - 25th June
---------------------------
IIT - 7th October
IIU - 6th November

4 Class
IIV - 1st January 2019
IIW - 19th March 2019
IIY - 1st June 2019

Thanks for the detail in these posts.

Wow, after flying United's new densified 777 in economy (and once in C) to/from New Zealand, I can safely say "never again" in economy. I will fly any carrier, make any connection, to avoid those horrible seats again. Haven't had the pleasure on BA yet, but can safely say that it will likely be the same level of comfort (or lack thereof)

I encourage anyone reading this to book away from these - AVOID.

But does that mean that BA are actually getting rid of those awful electronics boxes that take away a huge amount of the under seat space in economy? If so, then the nastiness of the densities seating may be somewhat mitigated (although I don’t think it will compensate for the reduced space overall). If not, another strike against BA for providing a bad hard product in economy.
