Is this not something BA used to do in house? More outsourcing a la Accenture? Snr Cruz is not departing far from the playbook.

Oops my mistake - 777-200 then - the 4 class version of the 777-200 will be no more?

The LHR based (G-VIIx) aircraft will remain 4 class, I believe.

To recap from earlier, it seems the LGW 3-class fleet (GE-powered) will be converted, and the entire RR fleet (including LHR based 3 and 4 class aircraft). 3 LGW-based 777s will retain 4-class layouts for BGI etc. though no word whether their 2000-vintage WT/WTP cabins will linger on or not.

The 4-class recently refitted LHR-based 777-200s (GE-powered) aren't affected by this refit announcement. Yet.

I flew Y on AC 77W recently with the 10 across in Y for the first time and there was no noticeable difference to previous experiences in terms of seat. In fact, it took me a while to realise that these are 9 across on BA.

Is the 77W wider than the 772 or would the seat be the same on the new densified aircraft?

This was something that struck my mind, as I’m sure the 747 refresh completed in 2016 was done at that place near or in Wales (I forget the exact location?!) So is this now outsourced to SIN? i.e Singapore? Is that correct? Why is that?

yep SIN as in singspore.
not sure why.

the first A321 has gone to Prestwick to be densified, yet the 777 has gone to SIN

I don't know why, either. However, we shouldn't forget that the noises from Capital Markets Day included a suggestion that more 747s will be getting refreshed and/or reconfigured. I am purely speculating here, but if CWL has already got the embedded experience and know-how for that, then it may make more sense for that line of work to go to CWL again (in addition to its normal workload of more routine maintenance) and for a separate discrete programme of conversions to go somewhere else that has capacity.

Cardiff is very much alive and well, but has no more spare capacity to do the LGW job. LHR had one Heavy line but it was closed in 2016 as the costs were too high, and the hangar space was needed for the normal maintenance. Hence the refit has been contracted to the same guys, I believe, that used to do the 380 maintenance before it was moved to LH Technik in Manila.

I have partially remedied the solution as 2 CW seats appeared over the Xmas period for redemption. I snagged them (by complete luck checking availability on Boxing day lunchtime).

So my booking for me and my son is in CW. However, I need to work hard to upgrade my other son and my wife who are still in economy.

It must be considerably cheaper to get the maintenance done out in the Far East - positioning a 777 to SIN or A380 to Manila can’t be cheap - yet still cheaper than doing maintenance in the UK/Europe.

However, The 777-300’s are sent to FRA for maintenance,

i believe some of the A380’s operate out to SIN then position to Manila though and swap with an A380 that was in maintenance out there.
