BA names aircraft bringing the GB Olympic & Para teams home from Rio 'VictoRIOus'

British Airways has launched a competition for the public to choose a name for the aircraft bringing Team GB and ParalympicsGB home from the Rio Games this summer.

The special charter flight will feature a commemorative gold-nose and has been given the flight number ‘BA2016’ to mark the occasion.

The public can cast their vote on Twitter @british_airways, between August 1-7.

Thinking about the fact that they will be leaving Brazil, I came up with Brexit.

I'm disappointed this isn't a true naming competition, rather than a "select from our unimaginative PR-friendly shortlist!" Lame, who cares which is chosen?

I loved Boaty McBoatface.. Classic! Just like the Internet people winning a competition for Taylor Swift to perform at the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Boston. (They weren't offended )

I wish they would be more lighthearted. (Though not as much as for them to stop the enhancements of course )

I bet they'd get much more positive PR for letting the competition run its course, then opt out if they weren't happy..

Isn't it a bit presumptuous to have decided to have a gold nose before any events have been completed (or indeed, medals won!)

Presumably G-BNLJ just happened to be in a convenient position for the photoshoot. If the aircraft is going to be unveiled with its shiny new nose on August 16th, I wouldn't have thought they'd have been fitting it in time for a press release on August 1st.

I've never changed the nosecone on a 747, but I assume it's not a 2 week job - how hard can it be...?

Good to see that BA staff had a sense of humour in choosing Golden Hauls. Can anyone tell us what other names BA staff voted on?
