Troika Cloud Sculpture T5 Lounges
Every time I've walked past this sculpture, suspended between the escalators which lead to the lounges in Terminal 5, it's not moved. Is it broken? It's pretty dusty, apt welcome to the lounge, really!
If you don't know what I'm talking about then here's a video..
Just curious! It can't have been cheap to commission & install!

Much the same as the neat clock/city name digital boards formerly outside the Elemis spa.
I wonder if BA expected them to have a limited shelf life upon installation and intentionally didn't plan on maintaining them - sort of as an "opening feature"?
Perhaps BA could start a collection plate in the CCR.

Wow, I never even knew it did that!
What a shame they haven't maintained it (but I guess we all know why!).

Both the sculpture above the escalators and the wall in the lobby have been turned off for at least a year, if not longer. I assume both are broken and are not economical to repair.
The projector in the Refectory in the Galleries First lounge that used to project moving images (similar to the projector in the CCR) was broken for years before it finally got removed and replaced with static wall art.
A pretty sad state of affairs for the UK's largest airline at their home hub and flagship terminal/lounge complex.

In the other thread on the Cloud - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ing-fixed.html - the most recent episode was (IIRC) attributed to the Cloud having been shut down when the dusty building works were going on. But it was never switched back on again.
I do remember, though, that the previous time when it was out of action for a while, the maintenance work that was needed to clean it and get it working again was quite substantial. ISTR that a hoarding had to be built at the bottom of the lowest pair of escalators (up from gate level to GF level). The Cloud was lowered into it and then it was worked on.
I too have been disappointed in BA's neglect of these interesting pieces. And disappointed too in the lack of news. Some information would be better than silence.
