Gluten free, much difference?
 

Mrs AQ and I are travelling to NRT on the B789 in September

We have preselected a gluten free meal for her but she's not had an airline gluten free meal before. Could someone shed any light on if there's much difference to a standard offering?

Well, if she like bland food she won't be disappointed, :D if she can I would advice going with the regular menu, the crew will have a list of all the allergens in the food on the menu so she can avoid gluten.

That's settled it nicely then as she isn't intolerant of gluten but advised to avoid if possible but not to worry too much about it.

My wife had a gf meal in club world two days ago: very simple salad as a starter followed by Haddock and a small cake. Best to go off the menu, I think!

I notice those "Potts" chocolate mouse desserts are marked as gluten free.......and they are really nice. Ask if they have any down the back.

With all due respect...I know certain people do have a very serious condition to certain foods. However I found this interesting...

I think it is worth noting that the prime purpose of that text is to sell a book. Also, while the author uses bugger all scientific references to back up her claims (while labeling this piece "science") she uses pretty cheap writing tricks rather than arguments to try and discredit her "opponents" ("a cardiologist named xyz").

Went BA F to Denver last month.

Not a single item of gluten-free food on the LHR T3 First lounge menu. Staff just plain rude in restaurant when asked about things like soup.

So we left the lounge and went upstairs to the one that takes Priority Pass. Super-friendly staff, nice views and some gluten-free options.

On the aircraft, there were things that could be done to make most options gluten-free - although, especially on a flight to the States where the article above claims that 33% are trying to be gluten-free - one would have thought they could use cornflour to thicken sauces instead of wheat.

On the way back, the food in F was so crap it wouldn't have mattered if it was gluten free. A BA cabin crew who came to us the other day said poor quality food was an issue ex-USA.

So maybe do as we did, and dine before. Then the onboard food is just a snack to have with the LPGS!
