Long Haul planes on European routes

Over the last couple years I've ended up on long haul planes on club Europe fares (mainly long haul 767s) a few times. Are there any particular routes where this common? (I know Iberia always have one every day from LHR-MAD)

A couple of times on the LHR-LCA-LHR (BA662/BA663) route. Late aircraft swap.

The daily Iberia widebody is used, I believe, to carry palletised freight between IAG Cargo's two hubs. I'm also led to believe IB only sell an A320/A321's worth of seats in case they have to substitute the aircraft. Anyone confirm either point?

I've often had the 330/340 service completely full. Maybe they initially load it to 320/321 levels, but if it's doing well then they "guarantee" a 330/340 service and load seats accordingly?

AY are running an A330 between LHR and HEL on Sunday mornings. Sometimes it's an A350. If you're lucky they sell the second business class cabin as economy so you can get a flat bed for the 2.5h flight to Helsinki. As with Iberia this is for cargo reasons.

Had a BA 772 from Madrid to London last year.

Out of curiosity whats the food like on this flight? Standard Iberia European business or more like the long haul meal service? (I'm guessing the former).

I think one of my friends had the same thing on a Madrid flight. I think some Club Europe customers got the Club world seats and then a couple got the short straw and got WT+ seats! I think there was a football match the next day, so maybe it was intentionally put there for capacity

The substitutions last year were on a small number of dates to cover the maintenance of the scheduled 767-300.

I was sat in F, on a Club ticket. There is of course a trip report!

British Airways 777 First Class Cabin, Club Europe Service! Special flight, MAD-LHR. - YouTube
Thats pretty cool. Its a great way to set people up for disappointment in the future though, some first time CE flyers must've been thinking CE was much better than it is.

In reality only Gold card holders were able to select the front F cabin at the time of booking (lesser mortals were behind us in Club World). There were many people on that flight who had gone only for the day - me included - just to catch that special working back.
