The satellite imagery you see in Google Maps can be several years old. It is certainly not updated daily! The images in use at the moment for Heathrow were taken on 6 April 2015.

I'm pretty sure that's it - if not maintenance then at least parking for the SA aircraft that come in from JNB before they turnaround and go back that night. The aircraft used to park outside/next to the BD hangar by the former level crossing (the white square closer to the top of Google pictures above) but since BD became BA, SA use a BA stand.

Indeed - and only a few minutes' walk from check-in: a far better way to wait for your flight than normal!

A bit closer to home, there's also one at the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian.

JAXBA is correct, it's remote parking for South African.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought it always seemed a slightly odd place to park an aircraft temporarily that I assumed it was the same one that had been put there semi-permanently for some reason.

I'd be quite happy for those stands to be gone.....it's quite a headache trying to get aircraft out of those stands when 27L is being used for departures.

There are 18 remaining Concordes in existence, throughout the world.

You can find them:

Le Bourget, France (2)
Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, UK
Imperial War Museum, Cambridgeshire, UK
Musee Delta, Orly, France
Aerospatiale, Toulouse, France (2)
Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, UK
Manchester, UK
Smithsonian, Washington DC, USA
Museum of Flight, Edinburgh, Scotland
Sinsheim Museum, Germany
Heathrow
Intrepid Museum, NY, NY, USA
Barbados
Museum of Flight, Seattle, USA
Paris CDG, France
Filton, Bristol, UK

The remains of the Concorde that crashed (F-BTSC) as well as the Concorde that was scrapped (F-BVFD) are also at Le Bourget, not accessible to the public for obvious reasons.

Here is a wonderful virtual visit of the Concorde near Orly:

The Museum of Flight is at East Fortune which is about 25 miles east of Edinburgh. It isn't readily accessible by public transport.

Yes, that is correct, it is close to Haddington. I visited the museum last week actually, it's about 45 minutes from Edinburgh to Haddington by bus, then a 10 minute taxi ride to the museum. Buses stop at the museum in the summer but not often.

Ahh, the LHR Concorde model. I remember it well.

As a teenager, I cycled 20+ miles in June 1997 to visit LHR on the day of the Utopia livery unveiling, and the repainted Concorde model was the first thing I got to see.

Concorde parked at LHR

Hi All,

I know this was mentioned in the past but I seen it on my recent flight from LHR to GLA. It was a bit unexpected to see it there as I have not seen it parked up in the past.

Does anyone know what the future for this plane is ? I believe it to be G - BOAB but do not quote me on that. I couldn't get the camera out any quicker I am afraid.

I had read when I googled it on this forum that the plan was to put it inside T5 when it was finished but well that was years ago.
