Obviously, a couple of the pallets are being stored in wing pods on the A-330 and A-350.

Seems odd. You'd think the value of long haul vs short haul would meant A320 pilots promoted to fill the gap, and new narrow body pilots picked up as necessary. It might take a few months to train up on the new model, but if your staffing is that short aren't you in trouble anyway?

There is a global shortage of pilots (although some news outlets suspect it is exaggerated). It's one reason why BA restarted their in house pilot school.

They re-started it too late and they overestimated how many direct entry pilots they might attract from other airlines.

There's a surprise ;)

Still I think there is a shortage of seasoned widebody captains

Those used A380's might not be coming from MH

before you can remove the A320 pilots to other fleets, you must train their replacements, which takes more than a few months.BA is failing to recruit the numbers of pilots from other airlines it expected.Because of the number of cadets coming through,BA's training department is at full stretch and has been for 18 months, hence the number of Titan aircraft etc.

One of the new LCY aircraft sat after purchase because there was no pilots to fly it.Whilst the situation will resolve itself in due course,it is not a quick fix.BA was helped when the retirement age was raised from 55,which gave them rather more pilots than they expected. That was some time ago and the benefits are now being lost to old age.

Cant wait to hear Captain KARFA's voice on the PA^:D

And the clue for this whole thread is in the header.
'May'. Then there again, may not.
I may think about a lot, but does nt mean I will ever do it. You d expect Ba to look at all options. Does nt mean they will all happen.

Slightly OT but this news and their new business class product make me slightly hopeful for a return of MH to long haul in the foreseeable future. Maybe the drop in oil prices has helped them out. Valued member of OW as far as I'm concerned.

Now back to the potential lessors for BA.

Ha, well I hear the BA future pilots programme is intended to be one of the largest ever when it opens later this year so the bar may be low enough for me to sneak in ;)

How would you cope with flying less than you do now?

Good question. I am sure I could still fly a bit out of my own pocket when I was not working ;)

This is crazy, how on earth is MH going to keep on absorbing that capacity? They can hardly run KUL-LHR on a profitable basis as it is, the rest of Europe including their longstanding partnership with KL was recently scrapped, and now their longhaul function seems to be reduced to feeding EK.

Well I will be looking forward to a few MH bargains, if only I class earned TPs and they still served alcohol on flights under 3 hours.
