Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under Ł300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under Ł500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for Ł520

Just cross-referenced with my list in post #2. Looks like we have the same routes apart from two I have that are not on your list.

LAX - FLL
SMF - PHL

Are these two no longer running?

Post #2 now revised for >2000 mile AA domestic routes. No new routes added - fortunately I seem to have found them all when I revised it last month. I have expanded it out now as done by EsherFlyer so the routes are shown in both directions. My list previously just showed the route in one direction although they run in both directions.

I have also added a note about stopping routes and linked to EsherFlyer's post.

LAX - FLL and SMF - PHL have been removed of teh list. I need to remove them of the maps whcih I will do soon.

LAX-FLL is operated by AA553, AA1709 and AA1717 via PHX or CLT.

Can't see SMF-PHL.

I'm aware the information that I've been refining in that post may look a bit cryptic to many, although understanding it could be important to help 60TP + 60TP = 210TP , and ensure that you don't get into a 210TP + 60TP = 210TP situation .

Feedback on what might make it more useful would be welcome, and whether it should be updated periodically (in which case I may move it somewhere to a Wiki or different thread assist with that).

Thanks for clarifying. There's no exception when you're on BA metal? Taking your example - in the case of flying on a BA aircraft, crediting to BA but using an Aer Lingus flight number? The Aer Lingus rules apply in this case?

I think the stopping service option is a bit more niche and folks don't tend to come across them much - I have never done one myself. I think in 99% of cases people are going to stick to the non-stop >2000 mile services.

However I though what you posted was useful and therefore I wanted to link to it rather than try and write something myself.

Yes, it would be Aer Lingus' rules in that scenario. The more usual problem is being airberlin on BA metal - an airline not exactly known for an abundance of Avios. On the other hand, there was a short but delicious period when IB awarded 40 TPs on BA domestic metal, so you could easily earn 160 TPs for NCL-LHR-BCN.

The only caveats are that occasionally the system gets it wrong, BA is the airline that enters in the data here, so any late ticketing changes often get worked back to BA rules. Also, in your EI example, it would still count as an eligible flight.

Pretty much my thoughts there.

My biggest fear is that it will very soon become out of date as changes to schedules and flight numbers come along (as they tend to do with some regularity). As long as people are aware then no harm done by it being included in the thread.

I've edited it to try and add some clarity as to why it exists at all. Some of us already understand it, maybe more will at some point, and probably very few of us will ever need the whole table .

I pretty much agree as well. One of the things I've learned / inferred by putting it together is that most of the routes probably have a better 210TP + 60TP option. I wasn't as aware of that before, so assuming knowledge is a good thing we're ahead.

I would suggest that a small subset of the routes may be worth calling out in the intro posts. Those mentioned here are potentially more useful because they start and end at a station that doesn't otherwise have accessible 2000+ segments.

I'm in danger of labouring the point here I know but I do think that list would be better if the actual flight number was included. I think I'm just about within the category who understand what's being displayed but it's only very specific pairing of flights that combine to create a 210 TP qualifying journey. Perhaps some of those who don't quite get it may wrongly assume that any journey on those routings qualifies.

If I might also add that I can't see any current RSW-ORD-SNA combination on aa.com that carries the same flight number throughout (I haven't checked any of the others).
