Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under Ł300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under Ł500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for Ł520

Hello

I just got back from a TP run on Friday that might be of interest.

LHR-HEL-ARN-HEL-LHR | 240TPs | Ł701 | Ł2.92/TP | AY

It was a same day, immediate turnaround starting with a flight at 10:20am.

HEL & ARN were pretty seamless for the immediate turnaround, even with the addition of having to disembark and go to arrivals via bus.

The HEL-ARN-HEL-LHR sectors were all on the same plane, so no issues with the delays (which happened to me due to fog).

Let me know if you need any more info on this routing - I've also posted some info on this and another TP run, see post #658

Is this really correct?
It's not correct ... that's an embarrassing error in the table.

It might be caused by the confusion around "A" class. I wouldn't depend on it.

2. EDIT: Nevermind my previous answer here, it's probably a 2 class, in which case yes, you'd get 210 TP. You can be sure by looking up the flight in AA's schedule and looking at the seat map: http://www.aa.com/travelInformation/flights/schedule
Many thanks for the very quick response. Before I saw your edit I checked and it is indeed slated for a 32B.

But just checked the seat map via your link and there is no Business Cabin showing so looks good for the extra tier points.

I've also now had a look at routing via CLT rather than MIA and the timings look a bit better so may see if I can get AA to do that instead.

Thanks again for your help - much appreciated!

Yeah, I thought it was a mistake. Would've been nice though

Aa 729 lhr-phl-sea

Hello,

does flying on AA729 from LHR to SEA which stops at PHL count as two flights with two lots of tier points, or just one?

I need to fly from London to Seattle and want to earn two lots of long-haul tier points, so thought AA729 might be a good way to do it but the single flight number makes me think it might just count as a single flight.

All advice welcome.

Thanks, David

This suggests you'll get a single set (although is about internal rather than continuing TATL)...

And that was in support of the general discussion / warning here...

Plus AA729 appears on this list from last year, where I think there was consensus that you get single flight credit.

I remember now the original point of that thread was to track down EU to US services that a continuing US to US sector (and the similar eastbounds) since this led to the internal sector booking into I class resulting in 140TP/40TP rather than 210TP/60TP. So watch out for AA45 JFK-SEA from that list as well.

I think that when there's a very different aircraft involved, that it will post as two flights actually. My thought is if you search on expert flyer, it will list this as two flights, rather than 1 flight with a stop. That said, I haven't tried this personally.

By contrast, if you search for LAX-BOS and pick the redeye flight with a stop at CLT, I can guarantee this posts as one flight.

So I think the distinction is really based on whether or not it is marketed as a direct flight with a stop or two flights that happen to have the same flight number. I'd love to see some post merger data points to confirm this hypothesis though! (Most tier point runners don't want to take the chance to find out)

I agree with that and am firmly in the camp of those who won't be taking the chance for data collection purposes.

Hi all, on my final sector of a TP run to PTY. Have been on B757, A321, B737 and A330 and I must say the most comfortable was the B757, much to my amazement. The service is probably on or below par with CE. FAs are disinterested in providing any meaningful customer service, I guess they are waiting for one of two things;
1/ Voluntary redundancy scheme
2/ reaching retirement age which for some cannot be too far away.
Anyway, only 5 more hours before my departure, time to plan another TP run I think!!

I've booked PDX-CLT-PHL-NAS on AA for $400 all in (one way). The long segment earns 210TP for a total of 310TP.
Also available as round trip.
