Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Still a newbie at this, but would absolutely love some help/guidance in booking this:

17 AUG | £1.89/TP | £1818 | 960 | OSL-LON-KUL//SIN-SYD/SYD-PER/PER-SYD-SIN/SIN-LHR-OSL | BugAlugs | J | BA QF | INCSALE ended 14thSep - (Applied GUF via TA (moves J to F on BA longhaul and scores 1260 TPS in total)

I also have no idea what GUF means?

GUF is an upgrade voucher issued when you reach certain TPs each year. Allows you to upgrade from one class to s higher one. More info in the guides at the top of the forum.

Forgive me if I missed it, but I've not seen any mention of the slightly random OTP-PHX fares available next year (as posted in the premium mileage run forum).

Headline is ~£1100 return in J; you can route via JFK and SFO, and get one direction transcon in F for ~£90 more. I make this 830 TPs (40+140+140+60+60+210+140+40) for £1.44/TP. Presumably better layovers would also be available, this was a very quick and dirty search:

My TP collection year ends 8 September, and I'm 520TP short of Gold.

I need to be in New York from 14-18th September. Is it worth asking to extend my collection year by a couple of weeks, and then building up a 520 run around the NY trip?

From a quick calculation, DUB-LHR-BOS-JFK-BOS-LHR-DUB at £1,446 = 480TP. Then positioning flights from Lon in CE would get me 540.

Need some advice, not sure if I should post this in Premium fare deals or here. Looking for One World Ex-EU: LHR-HKG-TPE-HKG-CMB-LHR (via HKG or DOH or direct with Sri Lankan, I don't mind) traveling between 14/11-18 in HKG/TPE and then 20/11-26/11 in Colombo). Trying to look on ITA Matrix but can only find One World flights for 7000-8000£

Thought I can do an Ex-DUS-HKG and just book TPE-CMB-HKG as a separate booking which would add up roughly to 1500+1300£

Any better ideas? Any help much appreciated!

LAX-PTY-LAX 16-sector mamoth run planned, booked and (finally!) ticketed for next year ^ Don't need the TPs necessarily, but just doing it for fun to see where I end up It will be misconnect central, but I can take that in my stride.

Can't wait for the obligatory schedule changes to hit several times, but that is all part of the game with AA - so bring it on!

Thanks to all on this board, especially xenole, who have helped to helped to create it:

LAX-LAS-PHX-PHL-CLT-MCO-MIA-PTY-MIA-MCO-CLT-RDU-DCA-PHL-PHX-LAS-LAX

Cannot wait to see the Panama Canal - certainly something I have always wanted to visit.

Would this also apply at UIO? Thanks.
Is it not the case that 747s did not have particularly good hot and high performance? Apart from the SP variant. The BA 747 flight had the stop at CCS because it could not take off from BOG with enough fuel to get to LHR. I've never been warned about high landing speeds at BOG when arriving in a wide body. Same would go for UIO I am sure. Given its a new airport I am sure they made the runways long enough for everything to stop when landing at a normal speed.

AA has to have 20 empty seats on its morning 737 BOG MIA flight and more empty on its afternoon flights. I don't know if they have to land faster, I don't recall a fast landing when I last came back on one. The A319 doesn't have this issue.

How long do you guys recommend Quito to accomodate for elevation? I live at sea level (though I go to >1k plenty times so it's not like I'm not used to higher elevation change)

I'd want to actually explore the city and not just lay around trying to breathe and get back on a plane
I'd say no time, it's either going to be a problem or its not. Quito's altitude is only a whisker over the altitude to which an airplane is pressurised so if you don't get altitude sickness walking around an airplane then Quito is unlikely to bother you too much.

Quito is pretty flat. Mariscal is none too bumpy and then you can cab it to the historic centre and most of that can be done avoiding hills also. See how you go with some light walking and then see about some staircases and things if you are holding up ok.

If you get some mild nausea then stop for a sit down and a cup of coca tea. Don't take any home with you though if you are travelling via the USA.

TP run

Hi, can I use the hive mind to suggest some routing for a tier point run? I'm starting in PHX on a Friday and need to be in DFW Sunday night or Monday morning over the weekend of the 24th September. I only need 210 TPs for 3,500 so thought this might be a good opportunity but am struggling to come up with routes that are reasonable. Don't really mind where I go, the journey is the important thing. Any suggestions very welcome.
