Isn't it about time we renamed 'Ex-EU'?

Call me a pedant, but seeing as LHR is in the EU and OSL isn't, is it not inaccurate to describe an itinerary starting in Norway and routing through the UK as 'ex-EU'?

Wouldn't 'ex-mainland Europe' or something like that be better?

Cerebrito Sep 17, 2015 10:27 am

Isn't the EU just short for Europe (as in mainland Europe) in this context?

Flyingturkey Sep 17, 2015 10:28 am

What becomes of Dublin in your long worded shorthand?

Hence the appeal for something better.

What, like this? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ing-guide.html

The thing is, "ex-EU" is now local jargon that's stuck. We know what it means, even though it's technically inaccurate; and it's short and convenient.

Ex-EEA !

Flyingturkey Sep 17, 2015 10:40 am

Sometimes IST gets used. So EEA is out as well....

Isn't ex-EU an FT reference to Europe excluding the UK? I don't see a problem with its use. We all understand what it means ergo it does its job nicely.

Yes "ex-mainland Europe" is an excellent suggestion. To save writing it though could we perhaps abberviate a little? Perhaps to ex-Eu? ;)

"EU" does suggest European Union whereas I suppose that "EUR" is somewhat more open-ended. In any event, does anybody really care apart from the OP?
