The daily 49/48 rotation just switched to 747's in the last week, and they so far have been running 86J's Super Hi J's except one day. Tonight's (Sunday) flight started as and 86J, then dropped to a 52J earlier in the week, and switched back to a 86J yesterday, as I was going to be on it.

The SEA route the last few years has been 4 Class new cabin 777-200ER's during winter on both rotations. For the Summer season (since 2014) they have switched the daily rotation with a 777-300ER. I took a break from flying out there last year, so didn't pay attention on what was used on the route during the summer of 2016. It is a very business heavy route for BA, so if they are going to run 747's again daily, I would expect them to be the Super Hi-J's.
And since Virgin the last week as taken over the route from Delta, flying 789's, when Delta were running old 767's, for customers it is an upgrade. BA the last few years haven't run aircraft with the old shoddy cabin offerings on that route, and if they do, I am sure they will gift Virgin a wedge of business travel.

I thought all the JFK routes were the super Hi J config, however I just booked on the BA112 on 5th May (JFK-LHR) and its showing as a 52J config...which I assume means the old cabin (i.e. not the refurbished CW cabin and IFE upgrade)?

Flew LHR-SEA and return last July on the BA49/48 and both were super Hi J's

Have another SEA trip booked this July and again both seat maps show Super Hi J (The upper deck map is no different - check the main Club World cabin to spot the difference).

The earlier LHR- SEA flight looks to still be a 777 but the afternoon (BA49) 1530 departure is a 747 and would seem to be super Hi J.

I flew one of these back from JFK at the weekend, in WT+ (or "Higher Class" as my 10 yr old likes to call it!). Was very impressed with the IFE system, super responsive, nice screen and the new moving map is just awesome (OK, I'm easily pleased).

It was only WT+, but because there were only 4 rows or so, and it was half empty, it felt rather nice.

My SEA r/t was a Sunday outbound in a super Hi J, fantastic. Tuesday return in old 747. Not as fantastic - older, noisier and the a/v system just sad. But both were upper deck - have to love that.

Shame, it looks like an equipment swap for this weekend, with BA 57 to JNB on 20 May now showing a mid-J. Oh well, hopefully I can sleep for those 10 hours with a bit of help from a single malt...

With an equal amount of Mid-J and Super Hi-J aircraft now in the fleet (18 each), you would expect things to remain reasonably steady, especially at this late stage. However, unless you're on the JFK route, most routes are open to a late downgrade substitution due to aircraft availability (aircraft going tech) and bookings and looking at your flight, with a lot of seats still available for sale, unless things change dramatically BA could sub a Mid-J in on Monday without much inconvenience to any CW pax.

While you should be on a Super Hi-J on your flight, you really won't be certain until you step onboard (or look at what plane is operating the outbound LHR>DFW sector on Monday).

Safe travels!

I am looking at flying LHR-SFO on March 31st 2018. Current seating guide states the 747 is A Super Hi J.

Does anyone know if the route routinely uses the Super Hi J?

Or should I not take the risk and wait for the a380 later in the day?

Its my in-laws first trip in J, so I want to maximise the experience.

No way of knowing this far in advance, SFO can get a mix of both, so if you are not willing to risk it you should book the A380 (I would if I didn't have a specific need to be there early on that first evening).

Thanks Airprox, much appreciated. I have opted for the A380.

747s - All but one refurbished

I know old threads aren’t liked when being resurrected but I hope this might help some when asking about the 747s. With the mid-j refurb programme almost complete, we have a full set of refurbed 747s in the sky. Much to the delight of some I’m sure.

So as per the Mid-J thread, how many 747s are left in the fleet? I count 18 High J and 16 Mid J.

Mid-J 747 Cabin Refresh

A total of: 34 refurbished 747s.

Or have some retired in the interim of this thread being started?

Would it be worth having a combined wiki of some sort to give a full list of these old queens that only have a few more years to give?
