Pre-selecting seats on longhauls?

Hi all, I normally travel with Delta but with an upcoming trip it appears BA may be a lot more convenient option (albeit I have no status with BA).

I was eyeing SEA to DUB (via LHR) in the premium economy section but is it true you cannot select seats until T-24hrs?

I really don't care for short haul flights but the SEA-LHR it would be nice to know you get a seat preference (whether aisle or window) versus on of the dreaded middle seats.

Any insight folks can provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can select ahead of time, but you'll need to pay

If you have no BA or OneWorld status then you can either pay for advance seat selection or wait until T-24 for free seat selection. This applies to all classes apart from First or when paying for full fare tickets in other cabins.

If you have status with BA, AA, US (and others), or work for a large company or buy a flexible ticket you should get seat selection for free. If you don't, and it matters, then you can pay for seat selection after your ticket has been issued. At OLCI, when leaving the USA, there's a good chance of getting an aisle or window seat in WTP at OLCI when it opens, it's not so popular to do it from that direction on the dot of T-24. But before that, you can check Expertflyer (or use the experts here) to find out how things are going. No point asking until about 10 days before travel. WTP is also the best place to get an upgrade and SEA is extra good for that too! So you may want to get an AA, US or BA frequent flyer number into your booking. No guarantees however.

The BA Forum Dashboard includes a link to the Seating Policy Guide:

If you don't have BA or Oneworld status then you are limited, in most situations, to 24 hours before unless you purchase a full fare flexible ticket or pay extra for seat slection.

Who can choose their seat at the time of booking and change their seat at anytime up to 24 hours before departure?
•Customers who have booked in F, A, J, C, W, Y
•All customers who travel in First
•Customers travelling on a corporate dealt ticket (using a BACCI code)
•Premier, Gold and Silver Executive Club members and oneworld equivalents
•Customers travelling with infants
•Additional needs customers
