It's with great sadness my G status comes to an end on 7th October after quite a few years, but the soft landing to silver is better than nothing.

So I'll be travelling LHR to GSP in the U.S., flying into CLT and then connecting on to GSP. Company policy is flexibly economy and there's no way around this can so that's 180TPs in the bag. I then need to be in LAX for 2 weeks after, so was looking at flying Economy from GSP to CLT then F from CLT to LAX return. This is coming in at £659 and accrues 440TPs.

Company is paying for flights to and from UK to GSP and I'm thinking of paying for my flights from GSP to LAX myself as company will want me to fly Economy to and from LAX.

I'm doing this mid October and with my TP collection year starting 07 October will effectively guarantee me Silver until Oct 2017. With no other long haul travel leisure or business planned at present but with over 1m Avios and 2x 2-4-1s to burn through travelling in CW or F I'm thinking this is good value. In essence, this is giving me lounge access, seat selection, avios bonus etc.

Am I being crazy to think about doing this? :confused:

If you're going to be burning Avios in CW or F - then you get the lounge access, so there's no value there.

Avios Bonus won't help you either - because you're on redemption flights.

So you're talking about spending £700 to gain free seat selection for a year.

Your membership year won't end on 7 October, as they all end on the 8th of the month. Does your membership year end on 8 October 2015?

If so, your Gold card will still be valid until the end of November 2015. So if you're having to do this trip in mid-October anyway, might that make a difference to your approach? You'd still have until 8 October 2016 to accrue 600 TPs to get another year of Silver, and it might stop you spending money now that you wouldn't need to spend.
