Lounge Guide: British Airways Lounge, Singapore

This guide gives information, reviews and photographs of the newly refurbished British Airways Lounge in Singapore, which opened on Tuesday 25 August 2015.

The lounge features the new British Airways Lounge concept, also available at EDI, GLA, BHD, AMS, IAD, BOS, DXB and CPT.

Opening hours: 15:00 hrs to until the last BA flight, typically 23:00 hrs.
Location: Terminal 1 airside (transit lounge). After the passport control, take the escalators on the left, when facing the Central Plaza, to Level 3. Escalators are by the Tumi store.

Lounge Access: Standard BA and oneworld rules apply, it can be used if flying on another oneworld flight.

Concorde Bar Access: BA First passengers only plus one guest. You get a 4 digit access code card when entering the lounge to operate the door. Concorde Room Cardholders do not have access unless travelling in First on BA.

Facilities: Showers (6), washrooms, food, drink (including alcohol), variety of seating, big screen TV, plenty of power (UK and USB ports), high bench seating, business area, wifi, printer, 2 PCs. No smoking facilities.

Alternative lounges: The Qantas Singapore Lounge is located next door to the British Airways Lounge, and is open for similar hours for all oneworld travellers. If travelling JAL you can use the SATS dnata lounge (as of July 27 2017). The dnata lounge is used by Finnair, nearer gate D30. Malaysia Airlines operate their own Golden Lounge in Terminal 2 and will accept other oneworld travellers, and dnata provide a lounge for Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan Airlines in Terminal 3.

Enjoy ! Tell me if the food is as good as I think. ^
But why would anyone want to leave?

I'm still trying to repair the broken hearts of all the staff who encountered a tall Dutch guy yesterday, this wasn't in my job spec.

There are six showers in the washroom block, and they are indeed to the left of reception (the Concorde Bar is to the right). They hand out buzzers if there is a queue. The shower room slightly smaller than the Qantas version, but much better appointed with both rainshower and hand hi-tech shower heads. I'll put up more photos later today, but here's a preview.

You don't find it dark and a bit claustrophobic ? Maybe it was me being in a rush without any time to sit back and relax.

Tell the women I really enjoyed the chocolates ! The staff is something special, as I am sure you'll agree.

I'm glad to see the showers have been updated too. Thanks for sharing CWS.

Certainly will pop in the BA lounge next month rather than QF.

Lounge Location

If Singapore is your start point, the BA lounge is in the main shopping area just after Terminal 1's passport control gate, bear leftwards into the main shopping area, following the blue Lounge signs, until you see this escalator, by the Tumi store, which takes you up to level 3. The Qantas logo sticks out a bit more than the BA one on the signs.

If you are transit into SIN then it's a bit more tricky since there are no lounge signs in the departure gate areas. But follow the signs for the Transit Plaza Terminal 1, the main shopping mall in other words, and then the signs appear. If you land at D gates then you will be heading towards C, and from C you want to head towards D, with the Plaza in between.

Food options

I think it's fair to say that the food provision is towards the upscale snacks / light meals rather than anything substantial. In that respect the Qantas lounge probably has the edge in terms of variety and portion size, however I can see different travellers finding both lounges working for them, depending on their requirements.

For more photos, see henkybaby's photos towards the end of post 22.

The usual range, here's a photo. Gin is Tanquerary and Bombay Sapphire.

Champagne: in the main lounge champagne is not available. It is only available in the Concorde Bar. If it's a very special occasion then you could ask the staff for a glass, but I wouldn't count on getting it being available.

Concorde Bar ¦ Singapore

The Concorde Bar is just to the right of reception, with a hefty door that swings inwards once a door code has been entered into a side panel. Access is available to travellers in BA First passengers (so not other airlines) and also Premier and Concorde cardholders, with one guest. The protocol seems to be for the desk agent to escort you to the Bar, show you the square exit button (on the left hand side towards the door) and present you with a card with the access code.

Inside there is room for 42 passengers, which should be plenty of space in normal circumstances. There isn't a staffed bar as such, service is mainly self service, however there is a high staff presence and they are very happy to refill glasses or get you items.

The room is rectangular, with a large central black marble high bar down the middle. On the far side from the entrance is a bar, food and coffee machine. On the left is a seating area, on the right there is a set of dining seating suitable for couples, but they are also good as working areas. On the front side by the door is a series of partioned off seating areas suitable for group of up to 4 people.

It is very dark inside this area, and if you consider the BA services from SIN leave fairly late in the day, the vibe seems to be that of an exclusive late-night Singapore bar. There is a definite "wow" factor to it, it's clearly very different from the main lounge so that travellers feel there are going somewhere special. It probably doesn't work so well for a quick pop in and out during the day, but it's intended to set the scene for the overnight flights in First to London or Sydney.

The darkness means that photographs don't readily do it justice. henkybaby put some photos in a different thread here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25325033-post65.html

One feature looks like a development of the T5 CCR sight gag presentation, minus the humour. There are two visual panels in the Concorde Bar which show "live" scenes from Singapore. As the evening wears on, the these presentations follow the sun as darkness descends. A clever way to handle the lack of natural light - giving a virtual window to central Singapore. It's not actually live, it's a recording played back as in real time.

The food and drink is the same as the main room with two exceptions and one caveat. The main lounge has soup (plus bread rolls) and a fresh fruit bowl which are not in the Concorde Bar, though I'm sure staff will happy to get these on request. Otherwise all the items in the above food post are available, there isn't a pre flight dining option. The caveat is that only a few items of each food option is on display, so they may run out briefly until restocked. There is a better cheese board presentation than in the main lounge.

On the other hand the Concorde Bar has a better range of champagne, wine and high end spirits for waiter and self service. So for champagne - which is not usually available in the main lounge - it's Joseph Perrier NV. The whisky goes from Glenlivet 15 (main lounge) to Glenlivet 18, the Concorde Bar has Johnnie Walker Blue instead of Black, and Ron Zacapa rum is available. The wine on service at the lounge opening were:
- Château Condat - Saint-Émilion - 2012
- BriO de Cantenac Brown - Margaux - 2009
- Teusner - The Riebke (Australian) Shiraz - 2012 (also main lounge)
- Chateau de Chantegrive Cuvee Caroline - Graves - 2012
- Jean-Claude Boisset - Chablis - 2013
- Margaret River Pierro LTC - 2014 (also main lounge)

There are plenty of power points throughout the seating area, including the dining area and hidden below the long bar.

And here's the Invitation card (number overleaf!).

Business and entertainment facilities

The business facilities are nearly identical to the AMS lounge. There is a copious provision of power points, 2 shared PCs (which did seem heavily used, there's probably scope for adding a few more) and plenty of places for laptop users. Wifi is reasonably fast, using the standard BA login process and password.

By way of entertainment there are 3 large TV screens, two in the "cinema" area and another to one side. There is UK and international press and magazines available.

See also Henkybaby's photos in post 22 above.

Shower facilities and arrangements

There are six showers in the BA lounge Singapore. They are in with the toilets in a block up a slight slope, on the left of reception. There is a shower attendant on the podium at the the front, who allocates out the shower rooms and hands out buzzers if there is a queue.

The shower rooms are not big but are well appointed with good facilities. Not visible in the photos is the main high rainshower head, there's also a hand shower attachment. The three buttons on the main panel push out to give (left to right) - continuous flow on the rainshower, rainshower sprinkle flow and hand unit flow. The hand unit also has a pattern control. All three buttons can be pushed out at once to give maximum water flow.

The razor and toothbrush aren't exactly high spec. but do the job. The only small criticism I would have is that the water flow for the sink tap is quite modest. And I guess there may be pressure on shower facilities when the LHR-SIN-SYD comes through, however the Qantas facilities are nearby, even if they aren't quite as good.

Artwork and other lounge features

In common with several other BA lounges, the Singapore lounge features many works of art, either from local artists or with local themes. They aren't labelled but there are a few I recognise, namely these cityscapes from Prof. Brendan Neiland RA - there's a sequence of 6 to the left of reception. The first one is called Celebration, the second is entitled Carnival.

Here's another eye catching piece of art in the main lounge area:

To finish off this review, here is a photo of the reception area:
