It's a shame for the marketing folk that this is indeed ex-Gatwick.

The Paddington connection would have been a bit too good to be true

I guess they can let IB continue to pick up a lot of the connecting traffic and BA will focus on the premium leisure end. I can see them selling this heavily to the likes of Kuoni, Audley Travel etc who can package it up with some very pricey tours.

anyone fancy LGW-LIM ?

Depending on whether this is 3x per week or daily, is this one or two additional 777s at LGW or we going to see cuts to other LGW LH routes (which are mostly Caribbean now)?

Also, it seems quite appropriate for BA to add a South American route to LGW. This was after all where all UK-South American routes used to be when BCal had the UK monopoly rights.

It is also not that much of a trek to LHR, if the BA flight is otherwise convenient - one hour door to door on the coach.

Well we already know LGW is getting 1 more 3-class 777 from next summer, and San Jose, Costa Rica has already been announced by BA (2 weekly, Weds and Sat), so thus far, no cuts required to anything.

Wow! Surprised it's a LGW route, like the rest, but perhaps I'm unaware of it being a holiday spot being on the coast?

Now the real question- surely this confirms that another 772 will be transferred to LGW to supplement it's LH fleet at Gatters to maintain its LH schedule?

Lima itself isn't much of a holiday spot but it's the main gateway to the rest of Peru and Boliviia, most notably for Cusco and Machu Pichu as well as Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, Salar de Uyuni etc.. Mancora is also a good beach resort not too far (relatively) from Lima.

These places have been on the backpacker trail for decades but they are now increasily popular with high-end tourers, adventure honeymooners and so on.

Fares are about £800 in economy, £1200 in WTP and £2500 in business. Not bad for a direct flight, but obviously it can be done a little cheaper indirect.

Great news for LGW. I'm sure the route will do very well.
