Changes to Checked (Excess) Baggage Charges

Haven't seen this posted yet so thought it might be of interest to some:

British Airways has increased the charges for extra bags for all tickets issued from 24 July 20015 as follows:

Shorthaul and UK domestic flights to/from London Heathrow (LHR) and London City (LCY)

Second and subsequent bags with Hand Baggage Only (HBO) fare: when purchased in advance via ba.com or the contact centres the charge will increase from £40/$60/€50 to £60/$90/€70.
All bags when Standard/Semi Flex/Flexible/Club Europe fare is purchased and for second and subsequent bags with Hand Baggage Only (HBO) fare: when purchased in advance via ba.com or the contact centres the charge will increase from £40/$60/€50 to £60/$90/€70.

Long haul routes where the checked baggage allowance is one bag

When purchased in advance via ba.com or the contact centres the charge will increase from £55/$85/€64 to £60/$90/€70.

Changes to USD and EUR rates

In addition to the above changes, on some long haul and short haul routes the GBP rates may stay the same, however the rates quoted in USD and EUR have been amended.

I am surprised this has not been discussed more. It was just about the only thing BA had going for it in Y.

I don't think full fare long-haul Y has anything going for it, on any airline.

If you're booking late enough to be buying it, you probably don't have time to pack much anyway...

That's annoying, I buy quite a lot of excess luggage.

Why wasn't this announced with the other recent changes??

It was just very quietly, it puts the reduction in hand luggage into it's correct context I think.

Do you often fly in Y booking class where that governs the baggage allowance?
