I first flew out of Terminal 1 in 1973, with BEA to Dublin. It was a Trident. [I'm sure there are many on FlyerTalk who can better that, and by years!]
My only domestic flight was to Manchester on a Super 1-11, in 1978.
It's a shame to see yet another part of Heathrow disappear. It is a very different place compared with the first time I used it in 1966.

Not flown BA from T1, but in September 2013 I flew to KEF on FI. I don't remember much apart from a loooong walk to a modern-ish looking gate as I was absolutely knackered having just flown from PER on MH. I pre-booked the paid lounge which involved quite a lengthy walk from the main seating area in the terminal.
Thinking about it now, T1 is (soon to be) only the second terminal I've flown from that is now no longer (the old domestic terminal at ADL is the other for me back in 2004).

I remember the really old lounge upstairs from gate 5 before the super duper downstairs one with the built in escalators

I still have a good selection of T1 pics from last weekend to upload once they're sorted.
It is a very surreal place. A handful of flights per day to very random destinations, hardly anything open and lots of hoardings up and padlocked doors.

I've been in the nearly empty T1 twice this year (based in Cairo)
But my next flight is on June 30th - looking forward to spending my time in T5 now and when I return in August!
Appreciate the reminder thread!

My abiding memory of T1 was many years ago on the Shuttle to Edinburgh. I was excited because, for the first time, I had been lent a mobile phone (which was, in those days, an enormous brick of a thing) by the office, and given instructions on how to make a call. I was killing time in WHS reading some magazines, when ringing came from my briefcase. I realised it was my phone ringing and so I extracted it, only to realise no one had told me how to answer calls - in those days, you answered calls by simply lifting the receiver off the cradle, but this phone had no cradle. I went redder and redder, staring at this brick, with everyone staring at me.
Fortunately it didn't ring again.
My other recollection from that era was the 10 minute check in time for the Shuttle. There was cursory security and ID check, which took only a minute or two maximum, and I reliably could make it for an 8am flight by leaving my flat in London by 7:10, parking in the short term car park, going through security and checking in at the gate. Happier times.

it's a bit of a wasteland now. A few shops still open - Boots/Smiths/Duty free. The Giraffe is still going and Pret.
Used to use it a lot. The famous zone R queuing out the door on a Monday morning.
Last night there were 2 passport desks open checking both EU and non EU passports and the e-gates closed down a few months ago.

On Tuesday, 30th June, the flight switches will take place so pleae take extra care when planning your itineraries!

As a heavy user of the place in the past, it is sad to see it passing from a nostalgic point of view, but glad its going when compared to T2 and T5.

I went through T1 on Monday, my first and last flight on BA at T1.
the lounge is very nice, with a few different area's. work area, lounging seats near the windows. Also nice and quiet.
