Before this nonsense takes off again, lets be clear: if you are invited to remove it from the lounge you are entitled to remove it. Again, its a matter of reasonableness.

But what if the staff member who invited you to remove it does not have the authority to do so? The cleaner for example? Is it still theft if a pax knowingly asked a staff member who would be unlikely to have authority?

...........only joking

I witnessed someone making a lunch/dinner box at a lounge buffet several years back... I cannot remember where, but this seemed common in Germany (Europe?) as a colleague said guests would often do this at hotel breakfast, which I also saw a few times.

I will put my hand up as guilty for the lunch making at breakfast or in the lounge. It was though for the two kids. Having a jam, cheese or ham sandwich at the ready when travelling is invaluable….and we may not have worked out yet where the nearest supermarket is.

The record I've heard was 36 of those 250ml Heineken's and 8 of those 150ml diet Cokes.
I can believe it.
Theft or not, the cost to the airline will be tiny.
What do you think unit cost is? Pennies per can.

In the DAN lounge in TLV I recommended that you leave some food and drinks brought with you for other guests to make up for the uneatable/hardly drinkable, paltry offerings

We very possibly have!
I have been known to get merry and find other merry people in the lounges. My favourite of course is the 4 lounge crawl at T3 (sadly only 3 lounge last time as AA refused me telling me to go to BA instead, surely I wasn't that drunk?).
I could not possibly comment as to whether a can or three has fallen into my bag on the way out of lounge 🤣
