Why do pilots "fib"
Sitting in the tarmac in Mallorca on BA 7051 ( Iberia code share ).
Pitot comes on. Flight delayed due to bad weather in London.
Hit the web look at the metar for Heathrow. 10 k viz, 3000 ft cloud base. Nothing wrong with it.
Wondered why they don't just tell the truth !

The weather they refer to is the wind causing flow restrictions.

Moderate delays.

regulated due to aerodrome capacity.

Wind is from the southwest gusting 37kts.
So obviously there are some traffic flow controls in place.

Strong gusts are affecting the south East restricting take off and landings at LHR and LGW, causing major delays and a severe weather warning has been issued for the rest of the evening.
If I was given a quid every time I was told "I phoned my friend in xxx and the weather is fine, so why are you lying to me?" I would not have to work anymore

This has been bothering me for a while. Have relatively benign winds from the prevailing direction always caused significant delays at LHR or is it a recent phenomena? In 15 years plus of regular travel, weather delays in fairly normal conditions seem to have increased hugely/
Someone previous mentioned time vs distance based separation as being a potential solution?

Let me tell you, it's pretty gusty here in sunny Surrey. I estimate we've had SW winds in excess of 30 mph all afternoon. The Japanese cherry blossom trees have lost almost all of their pretty white petals.

You obvisouly don't know how to read METAR.
I have highlighted the pertinent part for you, winds from 220 degrees at 26kts, gusting to 37kts. High winds reduce the arrivals rates causing delays. The winds have been like this all day and flights have been delayed.

Nah, not at all.
it just makes me laugh actually how some people think they know it all and think we or indeed any airline enjoys delays and making up the most ridiculous reasons to annoy them.
trust me ,at the end if the day, we all want to get home or to the hotel just as bad as Passengers do and NO, we do not enjoy delays, far from it, but still put a smile on our faces and try our best, well most of us anyway
