Do BA still have a fair few 737s at LGW?

I've just booked some flights ex-LGW and I was surprised to get a 737 for both legs (one is in May and the other in June).

Do BA still have a fair few 737s at LGW? For some reason I thought they have mostly been replaced with "old second hand Airbuses"?

I think they still have five left, all due to be retired over the summer.

I was on G-DOCX on Friday and G-DOCF yesterday.

In a word no !
5 or possibly 6 remaining. All due to be gone within the next few months
Wouldn't it be nice to repaint one into original livery and do something nice for the last flights similar to the 757s?
Afterall how many years has BA had 737s in the fleet ?

What we need is a 737-200 in original Landor livery, like I had to LED from LGW way way back as a young teenager. Now that'll get a nostalgic tear to my eye.

"Fair few" 737s is hardly the description, LTN Phobia ... perhaps you're on punishment watch for being a Mod here?

Ha ha I was also on G-DOCX on Friday - coming back from RAK or going out there, Palmer?

I was also on G-GBTB on 27th March. It was nice to have legroom on both flights! In fact I was surprised there are so few 737s left. They were still pretty comfortable IMHO

Given how many bus boardings I have had to endure ex-LHR recently, including a bus boarding from the B gate on a short haul flight, I am 127.96% certain that BA hate me.

Having said that, some people here would say that BA 737s have much better seats than the refurbished A320 family aircraft.

Still, either is better than the National Express coaches.

Surely not? You must be a 'valued customer'! I did board from A10 once, but that was during the "Strike", being bussed to a virtually empty 747 to IAD.

Not done an A320, but then you are dainty enough to fit any seat

Still, either is better than the National Express coaches.
Only ever used once, LGW>LHR [as per my HNL TR] , so my 100% satisfaction record is clearly an aberration

She was LGW-SKG-LGW, LGW-RAK-LGW on Friday. I was on the earlier SKG run.

My last trip to Germany, I had A10 from LHR to HAM, full flight.

Coming back ... my LHR to JFK was also from A10, full 747 .. it was not a First experience.

I think BA evaluated the 737 classic in the early 1980s - Dutch registered?
before taking their own Super 737s from around 1985...

BA have just 5 737's left in service they are:

G-DOCF
G-DOCO
G-DOCW
G-DOCX
G-GBTB

The plan to withdraw the aircraft over the next couple of months. The last 737 is currently planned to be withdrawn from service in early to mid July and is planned flown to VCV for part out by the end of July at the latest.

BA will by early/mid July have 14 A319's (G-DBCA/B/C/D/E/F/G/H/I/J/K & G-EOUB/C/E) & 11 A320's (G-GATH/J/K/L/M/N/O/P/R/S & G-MEDK) based at LGW for S15.
