Howard Long Try locate the chap I mentioned above and politely enquire( if he's working you wont be able to miss him lol). On more than one occasion he's seen fit to sit me & the better half downstairs and have the bar manned when we've arrived there soon after opening. It's not to their schedule I agree( from memory I think the full service opens up at +3 hours from the the 1st QF of the day) but it's happened more than once. Will back you up though and agree that i've been met with looks of bewilderment upstairs when asking for a basic cocktail off the menu.

Unfortunately Iím heading out on the 16th. Maybe a FT T3 gin outing is in order!

I could be tempted to buy a fully flex ticket for such an outing ;) :D

I can thoroughly recommend The Botanist cocktail from the Qantas LHR T3 downstairs gin bar - gin with an Aperol ice cube, Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic and a slice of lime. A few of those go down very well before a flight.

The forum's obsession with alcohol can get a little tedious, but at least the discussion fills the gap before the next time someone asks which T3 lounge is best for breakfast. :)

get champagne from CX F, nip into Qantas lounge to add a gin to it, and then head to BA F for a cooked breakfast.

Not forgetting to get pancakes from AA F lounge......

Was in the BA First lounge in T3 over the weekend, on a Helsinki trip - I normally use Cathay and boy is it shabby. Really needs a refurb.

I think all the lounges have their pros and cons.

Unfortunately, the QF lounge doesn't open until 8am or something, and that's too late for the first flights to HEL etc. with BA. Better if the 10:25am AY flight still goes.
Didn't think their salt & pepper squid was anywhere as near as good as in the LAX lounge (seemed battered more than breaded as well).

Do like the black pudding in BA GF, and the ginger tea. Nice when they have a promo on for alcohol etc..
Did like the strawberry and cream cookies but they've vanished.

The AA lounges have the candy stations, so you can fill bags with jelly beans, lollipops etc.

Shame the CX lounges have stopped doing the natural Yeo Valley yoghurts and replaced them with the less desirable, in my opinion, more sugary Rachel's yoghurts.
At least they've got the All Butter Dean's shortbread :)

I tend to hit them all but do mainly base myself in the CX F lounge.

See response to your post #702 at my post #704.

If you want a good answer out you need to put good information in.

Hi,

Do you have BA gold or One world emerald status? Otherwise it will be the business lounges ( BA,AA and CX). Also please note that on a sunday the CX loungw will not open to 730am ( Mon-Sat it opens at 530am). I had a quick look in the Cathay J lounge and it seemed to have a good buffet selection of hot and cold food ( western and asian IIRC) as I normally use the F lounges.

Regards

TBS

QF are now considering opening earlier and they allow pay per access too at £55 per person. Squid on the QF menu too.

AA F have a,so introduced a couple of afternoon dishes as opposed to doing an all day breakfast.

The squid is variable in my experience, although always tasty. I think it depends on whether you get a freshly fried batch, or the last of the previous one. The best squid Iíve had in the QF LHR lounge has been when Iíve had to wait, whereas the Ďleast worstí squid has been served very quickly.

I would guess the squid is floured rather than battered or breaded, but canít say Iíve let it remain on my plate long enough for a proper inspection!

Iíve never seen the squid off the QF LHR menu. When I was last in, the lovely lounge manager told me she would face a riot if she took it off.

ps. In case you havenít guessed, I rather like the QF squid, and order 2 or 3 servings of the green chilli sauce as well 😋.
