Go straight to the Cathay Pacific lounge. Don't venture into the BA one unless you need some kettle chips. ^

CX I assume. The Cathay lounge is the best. Business or First imo.

The Cathay biz class lounge is also the best offering for non First/Gold.

Hi,

There is a good thread here;

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ld-lounge.html

Also Cathay has a very good business class lounge if flying club europe or have one world Sapphire

I think some days the cathay lounge may not open until 730am which may not be suitable if you have a very early flight.

Another possibility coming up is the new Qantas lounge , which is rumoured to be finished by the end of September ( so any day now). This really excites me , however will only be able to enjoy the new Qantas lounge in June 2018 as that is only month i am confirmed to fly out of T3. It is still unknown if OW status will count towards entry ...

MarJon Sep 26, 17 5:09 pm

Was at CX Business on Sunday and it was by far the best of the OW lounges!!!!!!!!! Shower and Dim Sum between flights!

Mid November, and I doubt it will be before that.

25th Nov for me... will be a tough choice - breakfast at CX F or QF... ;-)

Lucky guys!

mcgahat Jan 10, 18 2:38 pm

So, will find myself at T3 on Saturday at about 11.30 for 4 hours for my connection to a light to PRG. Any thoughts on any lounge being more or less busy during that time frame? Also, any of them have any better or worse options for a quick nap? Wife and I are both Emerald so should be able to hit the F lounges.

corporate-wage-slave Jan 10, 18 2:46 pm

That time on a Saturday normally all of them will be fairly quiet, perhaps Flagship less so, with a LAX, MIA and ORD going out. I suspect Cathay is a good place to start due to the long chairs along the window, there won't be many Cathay passengers in there from 11:00 hrs until 15:00 hrs or so.

mcgahat Jan 13, 18 8:05 am

We are sitting in the QF lounge now after having lunch and a shower at the CX lounge. We obviously dont have the same tastes as others.........

Found the CX F lounge is more inviting of course but it got full really quick and at that point it loses its shine. The service at the restaurant was particularly bad as they seemed to not be able to handle all the customers, it was about 50% full. I found the waiters English very difficult to understand and I consider myself pretty good with people who have English as a second language. The showers were fine with good water pressure and amenities. I found the ladies working the front desk to be very pleasant which is a good thing but you get a good deal of traffic and conversation in that area and it funnels right into the F lounge are and could be distracting if working etc.

We settled into the QF lounge for more peace and quiet. It is actually a touch boring (on second floor) but quiet. The food offering seems fine for what it is and service has been very good.

Honestly, I can deal with any of the lounges (CX, QF, BA and AA) and will just pick whichever one is less busy. They are so close it is limited effort to switch.

Not sure CX will be my first choice

d3vski Jan 21, 18 2:58 am

Cathay Lounge T3 - highly recommended.

why would anyone go to the BA lounge?

currently in the First section, positives are:

1) lovely airy Ambience. GF is too dark.

2) really good crispy bacon - ordinarily would go for the dim sum but on a low carb diet.

3) agreeable Baron de Rothschild champagne.

4) good views of the Landing runaway - currently 27L.

madfish Jan 21, 18 3:00 am

No disrespect but there are many similar threads already to this, do we need one each time somebody goes into the CX lounge? They are getting like the old QR is better than BA threads.

d3vski Jan 21, 18 3:05 am

Just accentuates how bad BA have become but I get your point.

Mods - feel free to transport this over to the nearest appropriate thread.

Tobias-UK Jan 21, 18 3:09 am

... and perhaps better suited to either the CX or oneworld forum.

Airprox Jan 21, 18 3:41 am

Seems to me like this review of the CX lounge should be in the CX forum.

Have to agree with you. Last Sunday in LHR T3 Mrs PtF and me visited, in order, CX F, QF and BA F lounges - that’s the same order in which we both rated the lounges. In fact we both thought the BA lounge was simply not up to the standard one would expect from a major airline’s home base - as if to demonstrate this point we visited HKG’s CX F Wing and Pier lounges this past Thursday; what a difference!

Of course the LHR T4 QR lounge is better than all the LHR T3 lounges, because ‘QR is better than BA’. :)

i would rate the T4 QR lounge as the best in the world.....even better than their al mourjan in Doha!

Not necessarily. Discussing whether a particular lounge choice avaible to BA passengers and frequent flyers at BA's main hub is far from being OT on the BA board. OTOH, what is true and why we probably do not need this thread is that the topic has been done to death and the OP seems to just be re-inventing the wheel (although, to be fair, the BA board does seem to relish going over and over and over the same topics with exactly the same arguments each time on a regular basis).

That is so, but the OP is not about choices available, it's more of a review of the CX lounge and therefor more appropriate for the CX, oneworld or even the new Airport Lounges forums.

where2travel Jan 21, 18 5:22 am

If you are going into the lounge to dine, I much prefer the CX F lounge at T3 to the CCR at T5. Overall I generally prefer to travel from T3 rather than from T5.

The one plus I can think of for the BA F lounge at T3 (although I don't actually think I have been in there since the CX one opened) is for the selection of newspapers and magazines.

True, although it is somewhat irksome that, with 3 out of 14 short-haul destinations from T3 to French-speaking countries, BA does not stock French papers in T3 (unlike T5).

voweffekt Jan 26, 18 2:20 am

I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the second floor of the QF lounge. The bar area on the first floor is beautiful, but early morning is not a time (for me) to drink.

I like sitting at the wine bar on what you call the second floor (my first floor) as you can get a better view out the windows there. My ideal would be to have proper tables instead of the lounge chairs at the very end of that top floor in front of the windows - as I like to have a proper table where I can comfortably use laptop and eat, with a view. As such I'm torn between the bar upstairs, and a window table at the dining area downstairs.

windowontheAside Jan 26, 18 6:23 am

Can't believe that no-one has mentioned two big (well IMHO!) perks of the AA lounge - a help yourself sweetie bar (with takeaway bags helpfully provided), and - best of all - Portlebay popcorn! If there's a finer snack to be had, I haven't found it. :p

Since I rarely drink in lounges, and have a rather sweet tooth, I often opt for the AA lounge. Great service, decent wifi and although the ambience is a bit lacking compared with the competition, I love being able to leave with a bag of chocolates for the flight.

Good point, I usually stop by at the AA lounge for such goodies. On my most recent visit I had already visited CX and QF lounges and then went for my goodies. I only had a about 10 minutes in the AA lounge so was offered a glass of bubbly on entry, I don't say no. The waiter realised I was short on time and asked if I wanted a bag of champagne truffles to go, again I didn't say no:p

Where has the dim sum gone?

We are not T3 regulars so haven’t visited since October. Popped into the Cathay lounge for dim sum and found a new menu.
What a shame......

What a shame......

My weekly VIE commute from T3 (currently suspended due to stay in Asia) could only survive so long if lounges didn't change their menu.... I understand you liked a particular dish but if there are 5 dishes to choose from (ignoring the rabbit eating veggie 'meals') then they need to rotate at least seasonally for those who frequent the lounges weekly or more. Eg as much as I love the ox cheek at CCR, I had it about 10 times and last time I ordered the carrot salad just to spice it up a little as it does get old...
BTW Try the Dan Dan Mian next time in CX, it's delicious!

MrsW Jan 27, 18 2:58 pm

Thanks for the recommendation. I tried fish & chips.

Knickam Jan 27, 18 10:15 pm

Does this lounge hopping at T3 cost BA money as in having to pay 2 or more airlines for using there lounges?
