Ba 112 jfk-lhr (747-400) 744
Hello,
Flying this route later this summer and am looking to select my seat. I have always wanted to fly this type of aircraft and sit in the upper deck. But I have heard the overhead bins in the upper deck cannot accommodate a typical 20-22 inch carry on. Is this true? or will they stow my carry on someplace else? thanks |
i have never had an issue with my standard rollaboard up there. both standard continental size and a not-overly-stuffed american sized.
|
I should also add in that i booked through AA. is there a way of getting by the $130 seat selection fee? and or is it worth it to get an upper deck seat?
|
When you get to the top of the stairs just ask to put your rollerboard in the closet. Won't be a problem. If you have never flown on the UD before it's worth the seat selection fee if you can't get around paying it. Totally different experience compared to the LD.

63A or K?
|
You won't be surprised if I vote for A :D
I'd take rows 64 or 62 over 63 though, if you can. |
62 is not available. why 64 over 63?
just thinking about which side might be better for views leaving jfk and coming into lhr |

What about 64 being a bassinet seat and possibly having to move?
also, if seated in a 63K for example, would I have to climb over 64J if they are fully flat to get to the lav? forgive my noob-ness |
64a isn't a bassinet so you'd be fine there. It's my preferred UD seat.

Flown upstairs many times. Never had a overhead bag stowage problem. Window seats have extra side seat storage. Sucks you have to pay $ for early seat selection but its worth it to snag your favorite. Upper deck fills fast without early selection.

I've come back from JFK HBO (with far too many carry bags after shopping and duty free ) and the trolley goes straight in the wardrobe at the top of the stairs. You'll be fine :)

(It may be possible, if you're slim, to squeeze between the seat and the cabin sidewall and go forwards towards the door, thus avoiding stepping over 64J. But this isn't the intended exit route from the seat.) Of those four, though, only 64A is available for purchase if you're not entitled to free pre-allocation. The main categories for free pre-allocation from purchase are BA Golds and Silvers and OW Emeralds and Sapphires. BA Bronzes and OW Rubies get free pre-allocation from 7 days before the flight; I think that this includes all the other UD seats if any are still available. The 747 UD is about as close to the private jet experience as most of us are likely to get. |
Which seat do people love more 62AK or 64AK?
I am facing this dilemma for my JFK-LHR later this year! At the moment I have moved from 64A to 62A to get away from being in close proximity of the lav. Just read a TR that suggests 64K is private compared to any seat. Can anyone comment on the alignment of the windows? /AE |
My fully filled Tumi arrive doesn't fit in the UD overhead bins but as Crampedin13A states, there is a closet at the top of the stairs that fits a fgood number of bags. It's never been a problem. for me 64 is the best row, first off and easy to walk about the little area at the top of the stairs
